Joe Carlino Moves On To Greener Videos

by The Editors on November 1, 2010

Transworld Snowboarding video stylist Joe Carlino (and Gary Milton and Hayden Rensch) have reportedly left the magazine to join the Videograss team, according to news released yesterday.

“Adding the entire crew that delivered my favorite video of 2010, In Color which was made by Joe Carlino, Gary Milton, and Hayden Rensch, is a huge step for Videograss,” LeBlanc says. “We feel Videograss makes one of the top 5 snowboarding videos in the world yearly, but adding this new title to our business really brings in a huge element to Videograss. We have now added a big mountain and backcountry element to our video offering. More importantly we have added a production crew that is deep in experience, with all the filmers being highly motivated and talented individuals that previously owned and or started their own video in past seasons. We feel as a company we can now deliver 2 of the top 5 videos for Winter 2011.”

It seems this news comes at an almost oddly perfect time as we’re getting continued reports that the Bonnier Corporation is “losing interest” in continuing Transworld Media video projects. Follow the jump for the entire Videograss release. [click to continue…]

The boys from Knife Show compile it up from Volume 2. All this video wizardry in one place. In this case we actually prefer the video tricks to the snowboarding.

Action Print Advertising On The Rebound?

by The Editors on October 28, 2010

Mpa LogoAccording to a report released by the Magazine Publishers of America magazine advertising pages during the third quarter (July to September 2010) were up 3.6 percent over the same period last year. The biggest gains were in the retail category where pages were up 7.2 percent and revenue was up 13.1 percent.
As we do most quarters we’ve checked in with the only action sports magazines followed in the Publisher Information Bureau (Bonnier Corporation’s Transworld Media) and see that things are mostly looking up. In fact Q3 looked great for all the titles aside from Skateboarding and Wakeboarding:

                            2010 2009 % Change
TRANSWORLD SNOWBOARDING 221.34 173.67 27.45
TRANSWORLD MOTOCROSS 256.26 220.08 16.44
TRANSWORLD SURF 278.42 244.34 13.95
RIDE BMX 152.59 148.36 2.85
TRANSWORLD SKATEBOARDING 296.04 337.05 -12.17
WAKEBOARDING 93.67 116.83 -19.82

Maybe those iPad magazine apps were just digital overkill. To see how the rest of the magazine world stacked up click here.

Lil Wayne Drops A Shaun White Lyric

by The Editors on October 27, 2010

519Vgvf0Qrl. Sl500 Aa280 Weezy appears to be doing his part for the action sports economy with few references dropped in his song Bill Gates from the I Am Not A Human Being album.

Vans, Tony Hawk, and Shaun White all get props. Here are just a few select rhymes from different verses:

“Skinny ass pants, Fresh pair of Vans, If you n-ggas keep trippin’ n-gga share an ambulance”

“All day I do it, I do it like Tony, Got a sign on my dick that say “bad bitches only””

“Dress like a skater, ride on you like Shaun White, I’m high all day, you can call that shit a long flight”

Ride on you like Shaun White? What does that even mean? Click here for the entire song (and lyrics).

Seth Wescott Can Text You The Coordinates

by The Editors on October 27, 2010

Gi 0 Pn60WspotNot really sure why a snowboarder who is most accustom to racing down a fence-lined course would need a two-piece GPS unit with satellite texting capabilities, but that hasn’t stopped snowboardrcross double gold medalist Seth Wescott from stepping up as the new face of the Earthmate PN-60w with SPOT Satellite Communicator from DeLorme.

Among the plans for Wescott include his appearance as part of Team DeLorme at the upcoming 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, where he will discuss the many benefits of leading a healthy and active lifestyle and share his experiences as an outdoors enthusiast who uses a variety of technology. Wescott will also appear in a new DeLorme print advertising campaign scheduled for early 2011.

If you get any strange text messages from Seth this winter you’ll know why. Follow the jump for the complete details.
