by The Editors on November 29, 2007

After selling K2 to the Jarden company for $1.2 Billion how is Richard J. Heckmann filling his free time? By starting up a new public company that’s only business is buying other businesses.

Heckmann . . . has based his new Heckmann Corp. at the business education center that bears his name, the Richard J. Heckmann International Center for Entrepreneurial Management at UC Riverside’s Palm Desert campus. Partners in the new venture, in addition to [Dan] Quayle, include ESPN sports commentator and former University of Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz and Alfred E. Osborne Jr., senior associate dean at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management.

According to the initial public offering Heckmann’s confidence rating is pretty high.

K2 Gets Voted Off The Island

by The Editors on November 28, 2007

450Skimaker28 FankhauserAfter years of making skis and snowboards on an island, K2 has finally moved in to Seattle and they’re apparently enjoying being part of the known world again, according to a story in the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

[K2 Sports President Robert] Marcovitch also believes being in Seattle will get people thinking about all sorts of ventures with K2. The name, he says, is already established. When he goes to events wearing a K2 lapel pin and tells people where he works, “Everyone has a story — every accountant, every lawyer.”

It’s hard to believe it took them so long.

Chicks Gets Dicked

by The Editors on November 27, 2007

Dick’s Sporting Goods has now purchased Chick’s Sporting Goods, the formerly family run retailer with 14 stores in California, according to The Motley Fool.

The $71 million deal for Chick’s is not important for its size. The $100 million in revenue Chick’s realizes in annual sales pales in comparison to the $3.1 billion Dick’s reaped during its last fiscal year. Rather, it’s a warning to other sporting goods retailers: Dick’s is putting its imprimatur on the market nationwide.

Sex Sells: Just Ask Anne-Flore

by The Editors on November 20, 2007

We know Anne-Flore Marxer from her dirty, pants-down Burton poster, but apparently not everyone has heard of this saucy Swiss shredder. With photos like this from the December issue of Men’s Health magazine we’re pretty sure more and more horny men are going to recognize her in the future and you know, fantasize about what it would be like to lick melted snow out of her ass crack, knead her firm, perky breasts, and yes, breed with her. Because sadly, like it or not that’s exactly why sex sells.

Garrett Flies Jeff Berg Airlines

by The Editors on November 6, 2007

He’d been reportedly cruising for a new gig for quite some time, but Ross Garrett (the former publisher of Surfing Magazine) has landed at Surfline.com partner Jeff Berg’s Airborne Media, LLC. (the owners of Foam Magazine and Girls Learn To Ride) where he will apparently be group publisher and president of media, according to a press release posted on the Surf Expo site.

“The opportunity for Airborne is enormous,” says Garrett. “I’m excited to lead the existing properties to greater focus, influence and prosperity while expanding the portfolio with complementary products.”

What could be complimentary to Foam? If anyone can figure that out, Ross can.
