Here’s a little footage from scene seven of Jamie Heinrich’s coming of age film I Like You. The film, which apparently includes acting from Portland renaissance man Dave Seoane, reportedly goes something like this:
I Like You is an honest and raw depiction of teenage life. It takes an unfiltered look at the rewards and perils of being a teenager in love and the trials and tribulations that come along with it. It’s a journey of coming of age and the twist and turns of first time teenage love angst.
Guess we’ll have to see the movie to find out what Dave’s character has in mind after driving that van way off into the hills outside Reno.
Transworld Media today announced that their trade publication Transworld Business will now officially add coverage of motocross, BMX, and wakeboarding to its editorial mix.
“The addition of Moto, Wake, and BMX is a natural fit for Business. TransWorld has the leading consumer titles in those sports, and now we’ll have the top trade publication serving the respective industries,” says TransWorld Business Publisher Adam Cozens. . . As a result of the added sport coverage, an additional 5,000 BMX, motocross, and wakeboarding retailers will receive free subscriptions to TransWorld Business.
What, no mixed martial arts, rally driving, or NASCAR? Guess those will have to wait until things get really bad.
Transworld Surfeditor Chris Cote is apparently looking for a new side gig in the salty snack food industry. Where exactly? With Ashton Kutcher’s new potato chip company PopChips.
Kutcher is looking for someone to follow him around, do some Tweeting, interview people at events and basically act as PopChip’s Vice President of Pop Culture. The job pays $50,000 for the year and according to this video, Chris Cote says he’s the man for the job.
All three Quiksilver Pro events on the ASP 2011 Tour will be broadcast live on free TV in Australia thanks to a deal struck by Australia’s One HD and the company, according to a story in The Australian.
Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark said the deal was “monumental”. “As far as sport in Australia is concerned, you absolutely need free-to-air TV,” he told The Australian. “You see the success of netball since they’ve been on free-to-air, and the massive success of V8 Supercars. . . “Our vision is to become mainstream, and this deal is part of that.”
Kind of funny that a broadcast network would step up now that all the events are streamed live on the Internet, but we guess every little bit helps. You hear that ESPN? Maybe Quik can “sponsor” some of your executives and then get a similar deal rolling.
Walden Media has announced that Actor Gerard Butler will star and produce a new biopic based on the life of big wave surfer Jay Moriarity. The film will be called Mavericks, according to a story in the Mercury News.
“Mavericks” will focus on the relationship between the veteran surfer Frosty Hesson [to be played by Butler] and his young friend Moriarity as they begin training for Moriarity to ride Mavericks, according to San Francisco big-wave surfer Grant Washburn, who has been involved with the project. . . The film ends with Moriarity finally conquering Mavericks at the age of 15, rather than tracing a story arc all the way to his sad demise as a young man. Filmmakers are looking to cast an unknown actor to play Moriarity.
Sounds like this could be a great addition to the Hollywood surf genre. Click the link for more.
Tomson’s entertaining and educational talk is sure to delight kids of all ages (and their parents!) as he recounts the actual and imagined activities of the surf creatures he has personally encountered in his numerous ocean adventures and who live under his surfboard! A few of the sea critters that are featured in the book also call the National Zoo their home, including the octopus and the jellyfish. As a board member of the Surfrider Foundation and supporter of the National Zoo’s recently launched Project Blue Planet initiative, Tomson will also highlight a few easy steps children can take to do their part in preserving the world’s oceans.
We have to admit we’d be happy to listen to Mr. Tomson talk about pretty much anything. For all the details (including how to buy the iPhone/iPad app) follow the jump. [click to continue…]
Last night CNN broadcast a little profile on Shaun White. It was part of their Revealed program and the videos have gotten Shaun nothing but grief from the independent snowboard media.
…full of ridiculous claims, everyone just saying how awesome he is, including himself, all the footage was provided by sponsors and advertisers, and we could go on and on. So if you don’t know what to do right now, check how CNN revealed Shaun White.
In fact, this whole program reminded me of a Transworld article. All the footage was provided by sponsors and advertisers, The “editorial” is provided by someone nobody even knows, all claims are ridiculous, all the riders input is strictly worthless sound bites we’ve heard a million times before, and they call it important.
We haven’t watched it yet, but we’re going to just as soon as we link all this video up. . . follow the jump for the rest. [click to continue…]
We finally watched a little of The X Life on VH1. Turns out Papa Joe’s people know how to make entertaining reality TV. It has all the normal train-wrecks plus a little skateboarding (and BMX and MX). This is the second episode Click the link to catch the rest.
The Association of Magazine Media (formerly known as the Magazine Publishers of America) has announced magazine advertising results for Q4 (October through December 2010) and things are looking up (at least vs. 2009) at action sports only tracked titles, Transworld Media.
If we look back to Q4 2008 we can see there is still a ways to go before things are really back, but moving in the right direction is a great start, at least at Transworld.
Vrrrroooom. Vrrrrrrmooon. Transworld Media today announced that former Transworld Motocross and BMX Publisher Marc Fiore has been promoted to vice president of Sales and Marketing at the company and will report to Group Publisher Liam Ferguson.
