Look Who’s On The Ultimate Surfer

by The Editors on May 6, 2021

A certain privately owned entertainment company specializing in event and online streamed content production (mostly surfing sport) announced today the cast of beautiful surfers who will “battle it out at [the] state-of-the-art Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California” as part of the new ABC reality competition show called The Ultimate Surfer.

The cast is described as the “world’s greatest up-and-coming surfers” however one look at the list suggests producers may be wading knee deep into hyperbole bay. The crew includes: Anastasia Ashley – 34, Miami Beach, Florida, Kai Barger – 31, Haiku, Hawaii, Mason Barnes – 27, Venice, California, Tia Blanco – 24, Oceanside, California, Austin Clouse – 27, Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Brianna Cope – 26, Koloa, Hawaii, Luke Davis – 28, Los Angeles, California, Kayla Durden – 28, Jacksonville Beach, Florida, Juli Hernandez – 23, Costa Mesa, California, Zeke Lau – 27, Honolulu, Hawaii, Alejandro Moreda – 35, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Koa Smith – 26, Sunset Beach, Hawaii, Malia Ward – 23, San Clemente, California, Bruna Zaun – 31, Redondo Beach, California.

Are they Insta hot? Yes. Do they surf well? Sure. Will they be entertaining to watch? Maybe. Will the show end up some awkward mix of the worst reality TV tropes and surf cliche? Chances seem pretty good. But yeah, we’ll probably watch it anyway.

David Carson Teaches Graphic Scrambling

by The Editors on April 26, 2021

David Carson is a design genius. From creating the iconic TransWorld Skateboarding logo, to work with Ray Gun, Beach Culture, and Surfer magazines Carson has done more to rearrange the visual language of action sports than anyone else. What he does looks easy. How hard is it to cut stuff up, rearrange it, then slap it back down? But, as anyone who has tried knows, getting something that looks good (and communicates on a deeper level) is difficult. Now, thanks to MasterClass we all can learn the basics from the man himself. Shaun White Sells Malibu Pad For $8 Million

by The Editors on December 2, 2020

Shaun White has apparently sold his beach house in Malibu for a cool $8 million, according to a story in the LA Times.

The long, sloping lot covers an acre, combining two parcels perched just above the beach in Malibu’s Point Dume community. While many of the neighboring homes cram in as much square footage as possible, White’s house only spans about 2,200 square feet, letting a vast stretch of lawn take up most of the scenic estate.

Sound like he was a bit motivated. The Times reports he got $5 million less than he was asking, and appears to have lost $2.75 million on the property since he bought it in 2016. That might hurt a little. Click the link for more details.

Nyjah Huston’s new pad in Laguna Beach, California was an architecturally significant place even before he remodeled it up to his personal steez. Old media stalwart Architectural Digest was invited to take a tour. Always the proper host, Nyjah showed it all off quite nicely. Watch the video. It’s good.
