Burton + Dead Boxer = Greatest Snowboard

by The Editors on December 2, 2016

b2legacyc

Someone at Burton loves dead people. We’ve said before that it was because they were much easier to do deals with. But we’re not sure that’s the only reason. Over the past few decades the company has done collaborations with Andy Warhol (who is dead), Bob Marley (who is dead), and now they’re getting in the ring with Muhamad Ali (who is also dead) with the Ali x Burton The Greatest Snowboard.

When pioneers see eye-to-eye, it’s only fitting to step into the ring and celebrate with a knockout. Thus the Ali x Burton collaboration brings two legacies together with a limited release board in honor of the People’s Champion, the Greatest, Muhammad Ali.

Wonder if this boards floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee? Truthfully, we’ll never know. But we do begin to wonder how much longer it will be before they do a Hugh Hefner model. He’ll qualify as a dead artist soon enough, won’t he?

Burton Releases Series Of Advertisements

by The Editors on September 18, 2015

Burton Snowboards will be releasing a series of extremely high production value advertisements this fall featuring their sponsored riders.

Watch Zak Hale dissect features with Ethan Deiss, and Mikkel Bang alongside Mikey Rencz, as well as individual parts starring Ben Ferguson, Danny Davis, and Mark McMorris.

The riders will all be wearing the latest Burton Snowboarding clothing and riding products that Burton hopes you will buy this fall. It is quite compelling, is it not? In fact, the ads will be so good that websites around the world will post them for Burton free of charge (Kind of like what we’re doing right now). Damn, they are crafty.

After weeks of rumors and speculation surrounding the health of Burton Snowboards founder Jake Burton Carpenter, Burton PR has finally today (June 24, 2015) released an official health update. It’s good news considering what Jake and his family have been through over the past two months.

Right after the 2015 Burton US Open in March, Jake Burton, Founder & Chairman of Burton Snowboards, was diagnosed with a type of Guillan-Barre Syndrome called Miller Fisher Syndrome. Miller Fisher is an extremely rare disorder that results in the body’s own immune system attacking the nerves. Jake had a very severe case that caused temporary paralysis of his entire body, so he was put on full life support in the ICU for nearly two months at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire.

He is now out of the hospital and making progress toward full and complete recovery. For the official word from Burton, please follow the jump.

Michael Jager And The Business Of Weed

by The Editors on April 17, 2015

JagerMichael Jager (pictured right) the creative design mind behind Burton Snowboards, and the legendary design firm JDK is now turning his considerable marketing muscle toward the business of legal weed in the State of Vermont.

He and five other CEO’s have have created the Vermont Cannabis Collaborative, according to story on Seven Days VT. What is this collaboration intending to do?

A dream team of six seasoned CEOs — almost all of them old enough to join AARP — is trying to figure out how their alternative business philosophy could be applied to commercial cannabis. Vermont lawmakers appear poised to legalize recreational use as soon as next year, in which case there will be plenty of money to be made. The RAND Corporation estimated earlier this year that Vermonters bought between $125 million and $225 million in marijuana on the black market in 2014.

That’s right. They’re hoping to cash in on Vermont’s newest legalized vice. But, you know, do it the “Vermont way.” Which reminds us: pot smokers always have made us laugh.

Taka Hayashi’s Portraits Of Nature At AR4T

by The Editors on March 30, 2015

Hayashi

We’ve all seen his work on Vans shoes, Burton Snowboards, and Flip Skateboards, but Laguna Beach, California’s AR4T Gallery is giving us all a chance to get a much closer look at Taka Hayashi’s incredible work in a solo show titled Portraits of Nature.

Central in Hayashi’s works are landscapes, birds, symbols and cultural signatures that refer to tribes worlds apart: Native American craft, ‘80s skate culture, North African tribal art, and ‘60s psychedelia, to name a few. The mystery is in how Hayashi traps, and then connects, quick flashes and deep feelings of these worlds on canvas. . . Working in charcoal, ink, gouache, watercolor, acrylic, and spray paint, this new series by Hayashi is presented in a range of earthy tones, vibrant hues, and black-and-white, and range in size from 24”x36” to 51”x51”.

Portraits of Nature opens on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 6 PM and runs through May 24, 2015. The Artists Republic 4 Tomorrow is located a 1175 South Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, California. For the official word from AR4T, please follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Kelly Slater Joins Burton At Pottery Barn

by The Editors on January 30, 2015

Pbteen-Kelly-Slater-LineBurton Snowboards employee Kelly Slater has decided that he’d like to get in on a little interior design money from Pottery Barn Teen just like Burton has for the past few years. Here’s what he’s doing, according to Furniture Today.

The line of furniture, bedding, lighting, wall art, and “decorative accessories” will be reportedly made with sustainable materials and recycles fabrics like Forest Stewardship Council certified wood and rugs made with recycled fabrics and bedding using 100% organic cotton.

“I’m really excited to be working with PBteen on this project,” said Slater. “While they’re not part of the endemic surf market, I’m honored that PBteen has seen me as someone who can help a broader audience understand the need to use recycled, repurposed and organic materials. . . “Global conservation is a focal point of the capsule collection and it falls right in line with the change and direction I’m working towards, on a professional and personal basis. In collaborating with PBteen, we are creating a subtle and natural feel with this collection — something that has an authentic appeal for teens and their parents alike.”

As we’ve said before if your mom’s going kit out your room to impress her friends it might as well be cool stuff. And if the Kelly Slater product is as nice as the Burton stuff is it’s going to be nice for your room. Now go clean up and make space for Kelly’s stuff.
