Girl Nabs Sheckler’s Family Jewels?

by The Editors on March 16, 2012

Sheckle GemIn the classic story of celebrity wackness, TMZ is reporting that Ryan Sheckler filed a police report on February 27, 2012 accusing friend Stacy Salazar (a women he was planning on “spending the night with” at the Las Vegas Palms Hotel) of running off with $100,000 of his jewels.

Ryan claims he fell asleep but was awakened by the sound of his door closing. He then noticed Stacy was no longer in his room. A few hours later he noticed his jewelry was missing — a Rolex watch valued at $12,500, a gold/diamond bracelet worth $14,975, a diamond and white gold ring ($63,275) and a diamond necklace of unknown value. . . Ryan called the cops, who took a report.

Salazar told police that she was being set up by one of Sheckler’s “childhood friends,” according to the story. Police arrested her anyway. Oddly, we thought two things: why roll with that much bling? And, isn’t Sheckles on the Nixon team? Oh, and girls looking to rip off more of his stuff should check out a profile of his house in the New York Times.

by The Editors on March 14, 2012

The mother of a La Canada, California high school student made her 17-year-old son stand on a street corner for 15 minutes holding a sign that said, “My name is Justin. I am a thief” after she discovered her son had stolen a skateboard, according to a story in the La Canada Valley Sun.

“It’s my 15 minutes of shame,” said Justin, who held the sign — often in front of his face — from 4:45 to 5 p.m. as his mother looked on from the edge of the La Cañada Town Center shopping plaza. . . The woman did not give her name or the boy’s last name, but said she “wanted all his friends to see.”

Wonder who alerted the local newspaper? Sounds like mom is not only a punisher, but a publicist as well.

Hoax Sign Scares SUPers From The Water

by The Editors on March 6, 2012

263388310A sign that went up two weeks ago at Elands Bay on South Africa’s west coast states that Kite Surfing, Wind Surfing, and Stand-Up boarding is not allowed and that those who break the law could face a R1000 fine, appears to be a hoax, according to a story on iOL News.

The mystery sign, however, appears to be a hoax and has not been sanctioned by the municipality. . . But despite this, surfers have reported that police have even taken the sign seriously, and some have called on particular types of surfers to clear the water. . . “People don’t know whether the sign is legit or not. Nobody knows who put it up,” said Alan van Gysen, a photographer for ZigZag magazine and who photographed the sign. . . “There has been no official statement from the council,” he said yesterday. . . He said many wind and kite surfers feared risking a fine if they entered the water with their boards.

Sounds like the sign is working. Wonder where we can get one?

Is Shepard Fairey Going To Jail For Hope?

by The Editors on February 27, 2012

6A00D8341C630A53Ef0168E7Ec4591970C-600Wi-1Shepard Fairey could have some jail time coming after entering a plea of “guilty” in a criminal case with the Associated Press, according to a post on the LA Times Blog.

The artist pled guilty in a New York court to one count of criminal contempt for destroying documents, manufacturing evidence and other misconduct in his case involving his “Hope” poster of Barack Obama. . . Fairey admitted in 2009 to destroying documents and submitting false images in his legal battle with the AP.

Sounds like Shepard is going the Martha Stewart route. It wasn’t stealing the photo that got him, it was “destroying documents” and “manufacturing evidence.” According to the story, Fairey will be sentenced July 16, 2012 and could get 6 months is prison and a $5,000 fine.

Doctor’s Defense Blames Dead Skateboarder

by The Editors on February 22, 2012

CorasantiLawyers for Dr. James G. Corasanti a man accused in the hit and run death of an 18-year-old skateboarder have asked a judge to “dismiss the manslaughter and other charges” filed against him, according to a story in the Buffalo News saying that:

Dr. James G. Corasanti’s actions were not criminally reckless and the evidence is insufficient to prove second-degree manslaughter, defense lawyer Joel L. Daniels said in Erie County Court. . . Rather, 18-year-old Alexandria Rice, with marijuana in her system, chose to ride her longboard at night, crouching down low, and without wearing reflective clothing, Daniels said during a court hearing lasting an hour and a half.

So aside from being indicted by a grand jury for “texting while driving drunk and speeding” Corasanti’s lawyers would like to blame Ms. Rice for being on the side of the road, skateboarding home from work when she was struck and killed. Dr. Corasanti’s defense is setting up to be one of the most deranged and desperate in history. If convicted Corasanti could face 23 years in prison. And, if found guilty, he should serve every single day of it. Our thoughts are with Rice’s family and friends.

Snowboarder Bandit Keeps On Sliding

by The Editors on February 22, 2012

6A00D8341C630A53Ef016301D5A7F2970D-800WiLooks like Orange County, Califonria’s snowboardere bandit is stepping up his fashion game, according to a story in the LA Times.

Wearing a black-and-gray snow hat and a gray V-neck sweater, the young man walked into the Laguna Niguel bank in the 30200 block of Crown Valley Parkway about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday [February 21, 2012] , handed a teller a note and walked away with cash, said Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Strachan.

So stylish and roguey. He also had his fingertips all taped up so he didn’t leave any prints. The guy is bold, we’ll say that, but he definitely didn’t take our “quit while you’re ahead” advice from last week.

by The Editors on February 15, 2012

Lzgqhj-B78916728Z.120120215174817000Gh015Hmg8.1A guy the FBI has called the snowboarder bandit is really taking bank robbing to the next level. On Wednesday, February 15, 2012, he reportedly robbed his seventh Orange County, California band, according to a story in the OC Register.

The bandit earned his name due to his “youthful appearance and the ski-type clothes” he wore during the robberies, authorities said. . . Police described him as a white man in his mid to late 20s, about 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall, and 180 to 200 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes and unshaven.

There is now a $5,000 reward for help with his capture. If you ride with the guy and want the money, call one of these numbers: 714-765-1966 or 714-765-1900. Personally, it would seem like it might just be time for this bandit to slip off into the snowy wilds of Colorado for awhile. Things may be getting a little to hot in SoCal.
