Former Billabong CEO Matthew Perrin, 40, is back in court after pleading not guilty to defrauding the Commonwealth Bank of AUS$13.5 million, according to a story in The Australian.
It’s alleged Perrin forged his former wife Nicole Bricknell’s signature on documents, enabling him to use the value of a jointly-owned house on the Gold Coast to obtain a loan of $13.5 million from the bank in 2008.
It’s hard not to laugh, but Donald Warren Darst, 62, of Santa Cruz, California was arrested Monday, March 18, 2013 for allegedly vandalizing a stand up paddler’s vehicle, according to a story in the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
Darst was arrested after the paddleboarder called 911 Saturday reporting that his vehicle had been vandalized for the third time while parked near 38th Avenue and East Cliff Drive, said deputy April Skalland of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. . . After the second vandalism — which the man suspected was “all related” to some surfers getting territorial and not liking paddleboarders — he installed a camera on his vehicle, Skalland said. . . She declined to outline exactly what the camera caught, but said the vandal’s image was clear enough and that the damage Saturday consisted of deep, 6- to 8-inch scratches along one side of the vehicle.
Now, Darst (who is reportedly a retired attorney) faces felony vandalism charges and the SUPer is even more stoked on sweeping around a spot where it appears at least one person doesn’t want him to sweep. Vandalism is obviously wrong, but damn those SUP dudes can be so unbearably annoying.
And unnamed Spokane, Washington man allegedly attacked his neighbor with a machete and then fled into Hillyard Skateboards tearly this morning (March 13, 2013) where he holed up for seven hours while police negotiators tried to talk him into coming out, according to the Spokesman Review.
Officers called in SWAT and hostage negotiation teams. . . “For a period of time we thought there was another person in there as the suspect was actually holding up a mannequin behind a window and talking back and forth as if there was two people,” Arleth said. . . Police shot gas canisters into the business and tried to contact the man via loudspeaker. . . Arleth said they could hear the man speaking but that he never directly responded to the negotiators.
When officers finally got inside the man attempted to stab the officers with a 3-foot-long wooden spear. Spokane locals will not be surprised by the notion that police believe a controlled substance and/or mental health issues may be to blame.
When a bank robber in Sterling, Virginia wanted to walk in for some fresh cash on February 14, 2013 he wanted to look his best, according to a story in the Daily Monitor.
The suspect is described as being 6’ tall with an athletic build. He was wearing a black and grey beanie style hat with the numbers 686 on the front and sunglasses. He was also wearing a heavy black jacket and black shirt at the time of the robbery.
Can’t look all ruffled when you’re robbing a bank, especially when you need the money for Valentines Day. If the guy looks familiar (Dennis Rodman?) hit up the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475. They may have a gift for you, too.
He was in a car when a man swerved to purposely hit a roadside worker, then he saved a woman’s life by using his hatchet to hack the same man, but the best part of all of this is the Kai is “straight out of Dogtown.” And he describes being involved in the whole encounter as like “surfing the biggest wave of my life.” Just watch it (if you haven’t already seen it a million times) and turn up the volume.
Shawn Clark, the 39-year-old owner of Malden, Massachusetts’ Patriot Skateboards has died from gunshot wounds after a shooting in his retail store on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, according to a story on Boston.com.
Police responding to a call of shots fired at around 12:45 p.m. found Clark with gunshot wounds. He was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. . . Malden police and state police attached to the district attorney’s office are investigating the circumstances.
According to the manager of a nearby convenience store, two men were seen “running down a side street” following the shooting. Our thoughts are with Clark’s family and friends.
In October 2012, Kelly Slater’s North Shore home was burglarized. Here he talks with KHON2 about the rip-off and what he’s doing to help raise money for people in need during the holidays. For Slater’s handwritten list of things stolen, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
LA skater Charley Ford, 24, was in his car in Compton, California with another man and a 10-month-old baby Sunday afternoon (October 21, 2012) when, according to a story in the LA Weekly, “someone ran up, opened fire, and then fled on foot.”
It doesn’t seem clear if Ford was the intended target, but the other two inside the vehicle weren’t injured, deputies say: The department pointedly says the suspect “started shooting into the car at the victims. . . Ford was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”
The Broadway Bomb, and annual outlaw skater race down Manahattan, ran into a little trouble yesterday (October 18, 2012) as the New York State Supreme Court handed out a “temporary restraining order” barring organizers from holding the eight-mile race that is scheduled for noon Saturday, October 20, 2012, according to a story in the NY Daily News.
City lawyers argued the annual event is an “unauthorized skateboard race” through traffic and was poised to attract more than 1,800 longboarders. . . The court ruling prompted event co-founder Ian Nichols to cancel the race “in order to avoid being prosecuted,” reads a message posted on the “Broadway Bomb” website. “Ian Nichols must officially cancel the ‘Broadway Bomb’ and relinquish all responsibility,” the message added. . . But the group also said it is planning to conduct a “flash mob” at 116th St. and Broadway at 11:50 a.m. Saturday and go ahead with the race at noon.
The threat of arrest probably won’t stop the carnage as more than 2,000 are planning on make the run, according to the Gothamist. Guess we’ll all know tomorrow. Follow the jump for a video from last year’s event.
Sole Tech’s Don Brown had his Insta from last night’s (October 13, 2012) Bake & Destroy premiere “riot” picked up and run in The Hollywood Reporter, not bad for a night out on the town. According to the story:
An unknown number of people attending a skateboarding movie premiere clashed with police Saturday night in Hollywood near the Vine Theater. . . . Several people identified by local media as skateboarders threw bottles at police officers, according to a report from NBC4. Twitter feeds from people on the scene described police in riot gear flanking the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and Vine and walking toward the crowd.
So funny how the police can turn 300 people having fun into a “riot” simply by showing up in their ready to rumble suits, then again, it got the Baker Boys all over the news for free in the LA Times and newspapers all across the country. The only thing getting more coverage today was some guy jumping out of a hot air balloon.
Interesting to put what actually happened in terms of what NBC Los Angeles reported: “Angry mob of skaters” and pedestrians “running for their lives.” Just think how messed up all their other stories are?
