Snowboarder Magazine has named Nicolas Müller and Hana Beaman their Snowboarders of the Year (which also happens to be an issue of their magazine). But it wasn’t just the editors who picked the riders. No, no. It was a pro snowboarder popularity judging panel that included the following riders:
Danny Kass, Scotty Lago, Gretchen Bleiler, Torstein Horgmo, Pat Moore, Leanne Pelosi, Eero Ettala, Halldor Helgason, Peter Line, Kevin Jones, Jussi Oksanon, Dan Brisse, Danny Davis, Jake Blauvelt, Big Mountain Jeremy Jones, Travis Rice and David Benedek.
You going to argue with any of them? We’re not either. For the official details, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
Japan Journals is a bit of snowboard travelogue promoting the benefits of snowboarding in Japan.
In this episode the crew is reminded just how deep the snow gets in Japan.. . . We go to Minakami and Nozawa Onsen, two well renowned regions close to Tokyo. Both areas dish up a decent amount of snow and have interesting terrain to back it up.
As this video points out rather clearly. Snowboarding in Japan is fun.
Flow Snowboards is proud to announce the addition of Gifu, Japan’s Kotaro Kamimura to the team.
“Kotaro’s riding style and attitude are the perfect fit to Flow’s evolving Team,” says Flow Marketing Director Dale Rehberg. “He is one of the smoothest urban riders we have seen and we can’t wait to see what he unleashes this winter.”
Kotaro joins Scotty Lago, Tim Humphreys, Sarak Pancochova, Mike Basich, Nial Romanek and Scot Brown on the team. For the official word, follow the jump. [click to continue…]
Shaun White won theX Games halfpipe again (his 6th gold medal) on Sunday night, January 27, 2013 with last year’s run. This year he only got a 98 with it, however. Mark McMorris won slope style as did Jamie Anderson (again). Kelly Clark won the women’s pipe and Louif Paradis took Snow Street. Ta duh. We didn’t watch much of the X Games, nor did we travel to Aspen to party on the energy drink dime, but we did collect all the results (and most videos) for you in one place. Peruse them at will after the jump. [click to continue…]
We have to agree with the Salomon team: sometimes Depeche Mode just captures the moment. Especially when you’ve got Jed Anderson, Josh Dirksen, Louif Paradis, Wolle Nyvelt, Taka Nakai, Chris Grenier, Bode Merrill, and Annie Boulanger in the edit.
It is good to see the women on the progression tip. Here’s Elena Hight with a double backside rodeo from X Games pipe practice on January 23, 2012. Smoothly stomped.
After a short run at local Canada politics and some divorce troubles the world’s first snowboard Olympic gold medalist Ross Rebagliati has now announced plans to open a “franchise of medical marijuana shops” called Ross’s Gold, according to a story in the Calgary Herald.
. . . Rebagliati said the federal government’s decision to get out of the medical marijuana business is opening a tremendous business opportunity for Ross’s Gold, which also goes under the company name Rebagliati Gold Ltd. . . “As the federal government gets out of the medical marijuana business, taxpayers will no longer be subsidizing its sale. Under the current program, the marijuana costs about $5 per gram. Under the proposed changes, that price will rise to about $8.80 a gram,” the company said in its statement. . . And the sky is the limit should the Canadian government ever decriminalize pot, he said.
Yeah, Ross. Sales could go sky high and we’re guessing a shop in Whistler would do quite well with all those tourists who suffer from debilitating illnesses.
Andrew Santos shot his friends at Grouse Mountain and then Kaz Yamamura turned the sounds captured into some pretty nice beats. Check it and you’ll see what we mean.
Mary Bono Mack, the former congresswoman and widow of singer (and politician) Sonny Bono, broke her wrist while snowboarding at Colorado’s Purgatory weekend of January 19, 2013 with her husband Connie Mack, according to a story on MyDesert.com. It was reportedly her first time snowboarding.
Bono Mack was, according to her official Twitter account, vacationing at Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort with husband Connie Mack when the incident happened. . . “Took my first snowboarding lesson ever today @skipurg with @conniemackiv. Hmmmm. Yeah.. no..don’t think I will make the switch from skis. . . [then later} Boarding experiment over. Broken right wrist. Damn. There goes ski season. Good time to work on my book. Great loving husband.”
Though who know will remember that Mack’s former husband Sonny died in January 5, 1998 at Heavenly Valley resort from “massive head injuries” after hitting a tree while skiing. Nice that Mack hasn’t let her past slow her down one bit.
