by The Editors on May 28, 2008

Adamsx
ASA Entertainment has come a long way since since the inline days, and this summer they are producing the Supergirls event in Huntington Beach:

S3 Supergirl Jam is a second-year, all-female action sports competition that is bringing in more than 100 of the world’s top pro surfers, skateboarders, inline skaters and snowboarders to Huntington Beach, Calif., on July 25-27. More than 100,000 spectators are expected for the free event, produced by ASA Entertainment.

Lyn-Z, Gretchen, and Kassia are going to be there. That’s probably all the reason you need.

Bows, Arrows And. . . Skateboards

by The Editors on May 22, 2008

257-Skate-ShopOnly in Greenville, Tennessee. Seriously. Sherry and Michael Melton have opened a bow-hunting and skateboard shop in their hometown called Flipside.

According to Melton, the shop will sell brand-name skateboards such as Baker, Flip, Alien Workshop, and Plan B, and parts such as decks, trucks, wheels and bearings. . . . Flipside will also sell archery equipment . . . Explaining the store’s name, Mrs. Melton said the dictionary definition of flipside is “an opposite” so she decided that archery was an opposite of skating. The shop will sell various archery items and tree stands used by hunters.

This may be the best shop in the world for people who like wounding deer with arrows and then skating a bowl.

Qliq Media Announces Seshn.com

by The Editors on May 8, 2008

index_header_logo.jpgThe Seshn.com site has been up for awhile, but the press release has just now gone out. And guess who is involved? Former Joyride Snowboards founder Ken Greengard. How is this new action sports portal different from other sites like 5ones.com? Seshn founder Brandon Winnie explains.

Seshn aims to provide people with a unique site that isn’t your typical trendy action sports site attempting to create another YouTube or Myspace for action sports. “The people involved in this lifestyle are leaders and trendsetters, so we feel that we have created a site that meets that label. We have developed a unique concept and strategy that let’s people be the individualists and trendsetters that they are,” Brandon goes on to say. “I started this thing because I saw an opening that wasn’t being filled. I saw so many people trying to copy Myspace, Facebook and YouTube. Those sites will always be around, so why try to compete with them? My idea was let’s create an information network and let’s work with them.”

The WordPress-powered site looks nice (but then don’t they all). It will be interesting to see how the content grows as the site develops in what is becoming a horrendously crowded market place.

Skateboard Inspired Cordless Phone

by The Editors on May 6, 2008

vtech_340x382.jpgWe don’t really know what this means, but Vtech, the maker of cordless phones has a new product out that is “inspired by skateboard and snowboard designs” whatever that means.

We guess that means large, loud graphics all over every surface of the phone, because, you know, that’s what the kids are loving these days.

NJ Man Still Trying To Organize Action Sports

by The Editors on May 6, 2008

John Ricciardi an unemployed former gardener from Ocean City, New Jersey is hoping to change the world of action sports by creating the Action Sports Association. You know, like Little League for skateboarders. Some may remember him from a message he posted to Malakye.com two years ago. Apparently, Ricciardi is still at it.

Seeking to promote the building of new facilities, Ricciardi teamed up with the Rutgers business school and has embarked on a bid to organize the sport and become the latest entrepreneur to carve out a niche in a $5 billion industry. . . . Ricciardi envisions a federation of school and community X-treme sports programs under the umbrella of the Action Sports Association, a nonprofit organization he has created to generate support for nontraditional athletic activities, such as skateboarding, BMX biking, roller blading and rock climbing.

And we envision another sad man who will spend thousands of hours (and dollars) figuring out that skateboarders do not want to be organized. But of course, Ricciardi is driven. So he won’t listen to anyone. And, maybe he’ll get some free gear out of all of this.
