The Bones Brigade Experience For $200

by The Editors on September 21, 2023

In this age of nostalgia nothing seems to be more interesting to skateboarders of a certain age than the Bones Brigade. And this fact has not escaped Bones Brigade co-creator (and documentary filmmaker) Stacy Peralta. He’s decided to create The Bones Brigade Experience for fans who would like to spend Sunday, November 19, 2023 with the Bones Brigade at Vans The Block in Orange, California. But, there’s a hook. It costs $200 a ticket and only (only?) 300 tickets will be sold.

Here is Mr. Peralta’s reasoning behind the rock star experience.

In March of this year, Mike McGill held a grand opening for his new skateboard shop in Encinitas, California. He invited a handful of Bones Brigade members to attend and sign autographs, and announced it weeks in advance on social media. The event was a huge unexpected success, as thousands of fans showed up for autographs and selfies with the Bones Brigade, to buy product and just be there to celebrate with everyone. The line of fans outside of the store seemed a mile in distance and didn’t abate once that day. The event went hours over time and yet hundreds of people had to be turned away when the store inevitably had to close. This incredible response got us thinking that maybe it was time we put something together to celebrate the Bones Brigade and our fans; thus the idea for the Bones Brigade Experience was born. . . .This is our first Experience, and we’re putting it together ourselves with the thought of it possibly becoming an annual event to be held in different locations all over the country, and perhaps the world. Being the first one of its kind, we are all very excited to present it to any and all of you who may have an interest in attending. See you there.- Stacy

We love the Bones Brigade and cherish every moment we’ve spent with them all, but. . . well, let’s just say, if you’re interested please click the link to buy tickets (only four per person) because they’re sure to sell out fast. Oh, and if you want to buy a limited edition Bone Brigade deck with all the rider’s logos and signatures, those decks are only $999. All the money is reportedly going to support skateboarding causes and is tax deductible.

Bones Brigade In The Wall Street Journal

by The Editors on November 1, 2012

Ob-Ve877 1101Sk G 20121101143958The Wall Street Journal’s Conor Dougherty checks in with The Bones Brigade: An Autobiography before the film opens in New York City and goes for sale on iTunes (November 6, 2012). Dougherty says:

While skateboarders can be precious, Peralta’s film is refreshingly honest about the commercial motivations behind Powell’s marketing efforts. For instance, while the biggest stars of the Bones Brigade were ramp skaters like Hawk, Powell-Peralta began pushing street skateboarding as a way to broaden the appeal to kids who didn’t have access to ramps. (He claims to have enough on the cutting room floor for an entire documentary on the advent of “street” skateboarding.)

Yes, it’s a good movie. You will enjoy it. Click here to buy on iTunes for $14.99.

Tony Hawk’s Private Bones Brigade Premiere

Thanks to a crazy travel schedule Tony Hawk missed several of the biggest Bones Brigade: An Autobiography movie events, so to make up for that Hawk invited a couple hundred people (including the original Bones Brigade) to attend a special private showing of the film at the world famous La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas, California on Saturday, March 10, 2012.

Before the film began Hawk welcomed all the guests to the showing. “It’s a great honor to be here with all our friends and family and obviously industry people here in Southern California,” Hawk said. “So without further ado here is Bones Brigade: An autobiography. Enjoy.”

For the next hour and a half (we have no idea how long the movie was because we were entranced the entire time) the audience sat, eyes set straight ahead as Stacy Peralta, George Powell, the Bones Brigade and their contemporaries told the story of how a group of amazingly talented skaters became one of the most iconographic skateboarding crews of all time.

The Bones Brigade: Revenge Of The Nerds

by The Editors on February 2, 2012

Bones-Brigade-An-Autobiography-Interview-With-Stacy-Peralta-1 T479

On the eve of the The Bones Brigade Autobiography West Coast premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (February 2, 2012 at 2 and 8 PM), Stacy Peralta speaks to the Santa Barbara Independent on why these six skateboarders were so important and why the film is finding new fans each time it screens.

It really transcends skateboarding and becomes a story about this group of six guys who weren’t the cool kids. They weren’t the hipsters. Some might say they were borderline nerds and, for many of them, it was a real struggle to attain the position they eventually attained and we deal with that in the film.

Stacy Peralta Salvages The Bones Brigade

by The Editors on December 7, 2011

As Skate Peralta 576-1The Bones Brigade: An Autobiography documentary will be premiering next month at the Sundance Film Festival and though it’s not his first trip though the cold streets of Park City, Stacy Peralta still seems honestly enthusiastic about the whole game, according to an interview with Colin Bane on ESPN.com/Action.

Even though this is my fourth time, it’s just as exciting as my first time. Sundance is important to me because I’m not a big fish. I’m a small fish in the world of filmmaking and it’s really, really difficult to get attention for independent films and documentary films. When you get accepted into Sundance knowing that 10,000 other films from all over the world were trying to get into this festival at the same time, and yours got selected, it gives a certain cachet and importance to your film. It gives your film a blessing, in a sense. Instantly, here’s all this attention on your little film and it gives you a chance.

We’re just looking forward to seeing the boys back together one more time.
