Vans Steps In To Surf Boots

by The Editors on April 10, 2019

These new Vans surf boots take some style nods from the classic Vans Old Skools and put them out on the water. Good idea they waited until after April Fools Day to kick this off, right?

Grounded by the ubiquitous Vans Sidestripe and iconic checkerboard detailing, the Surf Boot Mid and Surf Boot Hi are designed 100% with performance and function in mind, emphasizing feature benefits such as grip, skin-tight fit and climate versatility. Everything Vans knows about skateboarding, like Vans’ original waffle grip and boardfeel, has been reimagined in a surf bootie design to elevate your surfing in all conditions. Vans’ surf booties are so grippy, you’ll want to wear them all the time, even in warm water! Every inch and stitch have been crafted for comfort and performance—Off The Wall and into the water.

They even threw in a pair of fly-less surf trunks to boot. The booties and trunks drop on Saturday, April 13, 2019. For all the official details and a closer look at the boots (don’t call them booties), please follow the jump.

Vans Suing Primark Over Old Schools

by The Editors on January 4, 2019

What makes a copyrightable stripe? Looks like Vans and Primark are going to find out as the footwear giant sues Primark over what it considers “identical knockoffs” according to story on Cosmopolitan.com.

A lawsuit alleging trademark infringement, unfair competition and false advertising was filed in New York last month. . . The two designs in dispute are the Vans Old Skool sneaker, featuring the iconic side stripe, and the Vans Sk8-Hi sneaker, a lace-up high top also with the classic stripe. The court documents state that Primark’s use of a side stripe on its trainers is confusing to the consumer. . . “The Side Stripe Trademark’s prominent placement and often-contrasted colour make Vans’ shoes immediately recognisable to consumers even at far-off distances,” say the documents.

When you compare this to all the skate brands that have boosted Vans designs over the years, it looks pretty mudane, but they have to protect their IP.

Zeuner stunned the crowds with her effortless style, landing her signature backside 360 in every run and topping it off with a kickflip indy, one of the few flip tricks of the women’s event. . . It was an extemely close call in the Men’s final round, seeing Brazil favorite Pedro Barros and USA’s Alex Sorgente challenge each other’s scores until the bitter end, when Sorgente laid down a crowd pleasing, trick-heavy run to yield the highest score of the day.
