Yesterday (September 13, 2020) marked the six month anniversary of the current now. Hard to believe we have been mired in this situation for half of 2020. On the one hand we’re blown away by all the calamity that we’ve been faced with, on the other, we’re thankful for all those oblivious deniers who keep on keeping on like there’s nothing wrong. Kudos to them for showing us that it is entirely possible to live a normal (albeit angry) life with your head firmly mired in the sand and/or up your own butt.
With that out of the way, here’s the news that caught our clicker in the past month (thought we were doing this weekly, but my how time flies). Follow the jump for the whole list.

Good morning. Welcome to the new week, in the new-new, of the new now, with our same old list of stories. It may seems like each day is the same as the last, but this list of stories will prove that is not the case. Things are happening in the world outside. Call it a beacon of laziness, or a blinding neon sign of boredom, but we’re still at it. Putting up a list of headlines for stories we might have read over the past who knows how many days.
It takes us back to when we were just starting out. Each week we built an HTML page of links with a bit of commentary. Then the commentary took over, and now, it looks like we’re back to just blasting out an occasional list of links for you to chew through all by your lonesome. Just the ebbs and flows of action sporting news dissemination. Enjoy.

Last Friday (June 17, 2011) Lastnamefirst.tv staged a softboard take-over of Trestles saying the following:
June 17th 2011, a day that will be remembered in history. Our leader, Captain Riley Metcalf, called upon the pirates of San Clemente and beyond to take over the peak at Lower Trestles. Pirates and other characters gathered for this glorious stand-off, where after hours of vicious warfare… we captured and dominated the peak at Lowers!
Yo Ho ho ho. . . hee hee hee.

In a month when the covers of both Transworld Surf and Surfer Magazine feature portraits of Andy Irons against a black background, Surfer’s office mates at Surfing Magazine have a completely different take, according to a post by Stuart Cornuelle titled In Defense of Cowardice.
They’ve chosen not to do any work at all toward understanding or reporting the Andy Irons story. Not that they don’t have the scoop. Cornuelle writes:
The things we can’t say in our magazine could fill a…magazine…and Surfer’s the same, as is Transworld, and Surfline (ask L. Samuels), and even the venerated Stab, which is practically owned by Billabong. Make what you will of the fact that Brad Melekian, a Surfer Magazine writer, penned his Andy opus for Outside instead.
No. Surfing Magazine is going to remember Andy doing a big freesurfing cutback because as they say:
We’re not journalists. We don’t really chase leads or hound sources. We don’t chain smoke and flask-nip into the wee hours for no pay, just the satisfaction of spitting on the graves of our heroes. Sorry. Bookmark TMZ for your gossip fix — “you and every housewife in America,” to paraphrase Melekian’s well-researched article.
Guess it’s better than “the dog ate my homework” and Cornuelle got to call out Transworld Surf, Surfer, Stab and Billabong for good measure, but is this really a story to be proud of ignoring?
