happygoggsSpy is rolling out their reportedly “mood altering” lens technology in goggle form at the SIA Show in Denver, Colorado today (January 30, 2014).

“Happy Lens™ shook the sunglass market last year with its ingenuity, proving to be the biggest breakthrough in eyewear since polarized lenses,” says Travis Tomczak, SPY goggle line manager. “The addition of Happy Lens™ into our snow goggle line—as well as the recent acknowledgement from Wired.com for our Lock Steady™ lens change system—reaffirms that we’re a brand creating innovative products that are both stylish and have purpose.”

SIA Solves Snowboard Problems In Palm Springs

by The Editors on May 3, 2013

The-Beautiful-Mira-Loma-Hotel-Palm-Springs-Us-State-Town-Views-California-Palm-Springs-37752It’s good to know that the snowboard industry isn’t going to take all the economic gloom and doom laying down. . . in the sun. . . with a drink their tanned, relaxed hands.

No, with the help of the Snow Industries of America they took action and jetted off to Palm Springs this week to get some winter problems solved the old fashioned way: meetings, powerpoint presentations, poolside drinking, tanning, and good old bro-ing down, all under the auspices of The Committee of Snowboard Brands. Committee Chairman Mike West of 686 explains:

“From company founders to CEO’s, it was an honor to have key players from the snowboard community come together to discuss some major issues within the industry,” said Mike West, founder of 686, chairman of the SIA Snowboard Committee and member of the SIA Board of Directors. “Our discussions have led to taking the next steps on increasing participation through retention and allocating our resources towards increasing healthier sales in retail. Our goal is to work ON snowboarding instead of working IN snowboarding.”

For the complete list of industry problem solvers and the additional committees they’re going to form to solve even more snowboarding industry problems, please follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Tanner is everything Brixton represents,” said Stoddard. “He’s a natural fit and we’re psyched to have such a talented person in the family.”

SIMA Stokes Me Raises Nearly $13,000

by The Editors on September 12, 2012

Hey, just noticed there may have been something we missed at Surf Expo (shocking, right?). It was the Stokes Me Surf Contest at Typhoon Lagoon (not featured in the video above). Apparently, the contest raised $13,000 for the Stokes Me Challenge effort to raise money for 10 different SIMA Humanitarian Funds. And that’s good.

“While the Stokes Me Surf Contest proved to be a huge success, the main event is online at stokesME.org and will run next month, October 1-30,” explained SIMA Humanitarian Fund President and Surfline Vice President, Ross Garrett. “Thanks to Surf Expo and Sanuk, who carved out time during their event for our fundraiser, we had some fun, and started to raise some money for our 10 worthy humanitarian beneficiaries.”

Always nice to see the surf industry doing good things for people and partying at the same time. Follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]

by The Editors on August 27, 2012

Mick Fanning pulled one out from the back seat in the finals of the 2012 Billabong Pro Tahiti as he edged Joel Parkinson 18.87 to 18.37. Parko got out early and scored is 18.37 with his first two waves. But Fanning kept his game face on and waited for his waves.

“It’s a 35 minute Final so I knew the waves were going to come,” Fanning said. “I just had to be patient. It’s Teahupo’o so it goes on and off. You can get two 10s in two minutes so I knew I just needed to keep my composure throughout the Final. Joel (Parkinson) is such an incredible surfer and he’s gotten so good out here. He raced out to an early lead and I knew I needed to focus on my own game plan. I got that good score about mid-heat and then was able to sell him when he had priority on one that didn’t pan out for him. The second wave was the one and it’s an incredible feeling to come back and get the win. I’m stoked.”

This win puts Fanning into the top spot on the ASP rankings ahead of Joel Parkinson, and 2 John Florence in third. For the official word from the ASP and complete results, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

by The Editors on August 25, 2012

Teahupooo0521Tahiti10Kirstin M

The 2012 Billabong Pro Tahiti will run tomorrow (Sunday August 26, 2012), not because of epic surf, but due to running out of days to lay (there have been eight so far if you’re counting). But it’s not all bad news–tomorrow, there should be a swell filling in.

Surfline, official forecasters for the Billabong Pro Tahiti, are calling for [a] new SW swell . . . this medium size SW ground swell will fill in further and be strongest on tomorrow. A larger and solid south swell will build rapidly over tomorrow afternoon and continue Monday. Strong East trades prevail through the weekend, shifting more ENE/NE on Monday and easing.
