The first jewel of the 2013 Triple Crown of Surfing, the Reef Hawaiian Pro will most likely kick off tomorrow (Wednesday, November 13, 2013) thanks a strong swell building on the North Shore of Oahu.
The REEF Hawaiian Pro will feature 128 of the world’s best surfers, competing for critical ASP Prime points and a share of $250,000. The winner of this event will take home $40,000 and an early lead on the 2013 Vans Triple Crown series ratings. . . Also hitting the waves this week will be four absolute legends of the Vans Triple Crown: Michael Ho (HI); Sunny Garcia (HI); Kaipo Jaquias (HI); and Brad Gerlach (USA). Gretchen Bleiler is now staring on her own label of a limited edition bottle of Muscle Milk.
This is the first time the company has featured a female athlete on limited edition packaging. The 14 oz. bottle can be found at retail outlets throughout Colorado through the rest of the year and is available in Vanilla Crème flavor. A portion of the proceeds from this bottle will benefit Protect Our Winters in the fight against climate change.
Oddly, all you can see of Gretchen is her goggles, helmet and scarf, but we’d know that frontside air anywhere.

Nike’s Roger Wyett, 56, has decided that after 19 years at Nike (that’s like 40 anywhere else) it’s time for him to hang up his action sporting shoes and exit the Northwest shoe giant for retirement. And the new guy? Well, he’s not a new guy at all. It’s Scott LeClair, 47, the former Brand VP and GM of Nike Skate and Nike Snow.
LeClair joined Nike in 1992 and has led Nike’s skate and snow business since June 2012. He has held previous roles in North America and was GM of Nike’s West Territory based in Los Angeles, before moving to Japan to lead the running category and then the merchandising function. He will report to Jayme Martin, VP & GM of Global Categories. . . .”We’re very pleased that Scott will lead us forward. He is a proven leader with strong brand expertise and his deep knowledge of Action Sports will be instrumental as we continue to build our business globally,” said Martin.
And that’s the news for now, from Nike. Follow the jump for the official word. [click to continue…]
