Cori Schumacher Ain’t Going To Surf China

by The Editors on March 3, 2011

Dsc 28251-300X199Current ASP Women’s World Longboarding champ Cori Schumacher says she’ll boycott the 2011 tour, according to a story on Surfer Magazine’s website.

“I have deep political and personal reservations with being a part of any sort of benefit to a country that actively engages in human rights violations,” Schumacher said. . . The current schedule for the Women’s Longboard Tour includes two stops, one in France and the other in China. Schumacher has stated that she will not surf in either event.

A very stand up position to take considering that the entire surf industry makes their products in China, a country that has recently threatened to send foreign journalists home if they try to report on pro-democracy demonstrations.

So happy to see an athlete take a justified stand against China.
