by The Editors on March 2, 2011

Ar4T Futureland WebLaguna Beach, Calfironia’s 210 AR4T Space is hosting an artist reception for their show Futureland on Saturday night, March 5, 2011.

The show features a collection of posters from the future by some of action sports’ finest working graphic designers.

Their art works for FUTURELAND are provocative, witty, sarcastic, and just plain fun to look at. They’ll get your brain moving in new directions. Which, when we look at it in focus, is what makes them so perfectly suited for their day time talent – keeping the world awake.

Featured designers include Michael Jager, Sherwin Yumul, Greg Stenson, Jay Floyd, Blake Gantz, Thomas Bradley, Ryan Davis, Brian Nally, Shoam Thomas, Jeff Bartel, Peter Stow, Carl E. Smith, Patrick Carrie, John Antoski, and Corey Smith.

The artist reception begins Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 6 PM. 210 AR4T Space is located at 210 North Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, California. Follow the jump for more details.165

FUTURELAND. SATURDAY MARCH FIVE, 2011.
Walt Disney once said “tomorrow can be a wonderful age.” He also said, “If anybody gets highbrow around the studio, out he goes.” It is in this spirit we bring you the March exhibition at 210 AR4T Space: FUTURELAND. 17 views of the future through the eyes of graphic designers given free reign to communicate their vision. The only rule that the idea be materialized in the form of a 30 x 40″ Tomorrowland style poster.

By day this group of FUTURELAND artists create concepts and imagery for some of the world’s best firms and largest brands. By night? Who the heck knows. This group is bursting at the seams with creative energy. Their art works for FUTURELAND are provocative, witty, sarcastic, and just plain fun to look at. They’ll get your brain moving in new directions. Which, when we look at it in focus, is what makes them so perfectly suited for their day time talent – keeping the world awake.

When asked to describe the inspirations for FUTURELAND, answers ranged from death to the environment to travel to family. Each artist was asked to describe their process, timeframe, and to describe the future in four words.

No History No Future.

Our Life’s Immediate Opportunities.

Bummer bummer and bummer.

These 4Q interviews are posted on the AR4T.com blog. And if you can’t tell already, we really like them. We will be publishing more in depth profiles about each designer as the month goes on. In the gallery we will be asking visitors to cast votes on their favorite versions of the future, and we will also be doing this online through facebook. Sunday, March 6th the images go up and we encourage mass voting. Winners get both bragging rights and whole box of fun prizes.
