Vail Trail columnist Linda Boyne, the mother to two young boys, has written an open letter to Jake Burton in her column this week explaining why, thanks to the Love boards, she will be boycotting all Burton products from now on. She ends her column with the following:
You and your wife are raising three boys of your own. I’m appealing to you as a fellow parent. In an interview posted on your Web site, you state, “I’d like to be remembered as a good husband, father, friend, relative and someone who always did the right thing for the sport of snowboarding and the Burton brand.” In this case, I don’t think you’re doing the right thing.
Apparently, Ms. Boyne doesn’t understand that in business making money always comes first.

You are just pissed because you think that your sons are gooing to stay “innocent” for forever. Today’s society sits at the point where sexual themes are implied in everything, even some of the cartoons that your little babies watch have sexual themes, they are just extremely well hidden within the context. Think about what you watched growing up, everything was either sexual or political, nowadays it covers sex, politics, enviromental issues, and even world relations. Burton sells to other countries for one thing, and in places in europe, nudity is not a big deal, but violence is. Think about england or germany, nudity is in movies all hte time, a 13 yr. old can probably see boobs, but if it came to a movie like “I Am Legend” or “Hancock” it gets a much worse rating, just because it has fight scenes in it. So at least the board isn’t promoting your child to pick up a gun and shoot you, so stop complaining and get a life.

P.S. look up what a backwards peace sign menas in another country.
first amendment Ms. Boyne. look it up.
talk about a day late and a dollar short. maybe i would have had little bit more respect for someone who did not just jump on the wagon to protest some ancient playboy pics being screened onto some boards.

ms. boyne, get a job-a fucking five minute blog does not count. see what the real world is about-before you know it… you’ll look at these boards for what they are: hyped, price points for the masses.
