Team Hosoi Adds A Snow Win

It looks like Team Hosoi (made up of Rob Machado, Brandon Cocard, and Christian Hosoi) might have the Ultimate Boarder team competition all wrapped up. Machado won the surf, today Brandon Cocard (pictured above) won the team snow event, and tomorrow Christian Hosoi has a pretty good shot at the skate competition.

In the individual competition 16-year-old Mammoth ripper Trevor Jacob took it over Shane Pospisil and Todd Richards.

Bryce Young Sits Atop the Solo Leaderboard
Team Hosoi and Eternal Lead Team Divisions

GOLETA, Calif., March 19, 2010 – It was a bluebird day at Northstar-at-Tahoe, for stage two of the 3rd Annual Ultimate Boarder™ Championship Powered by SanDisk. Sixteen year-old Trevor Jacob from Mammoth Lakes, Calif., proved he could shred with the big boys as he topped the podium in the Solo division. Joining him on the podium were Shayne Pospisil (Manasquan, NJ) and Todd Richards (Encinitas, Calif.), ranking second and third respectively.

“Ultimate Boarder™ is really cool because it brings together all the sports that I love,” said Jacob. “We have a killer group of athletes, who I really respect, where we can just go out there and have fun.”

The Team competition brought Lake Tahoe locals to the podium for both Open and the new Team Youth divisions. On deck for Team Hosoi, Brandon Cocard (Truckee, Calif.), proved why they remain on top, with his incredible display of air tricks. Rounding out the Open Team podium was Jeremy Grendahl (Prior Lake, Mich.) of Team Caballero and Alex Dawoud (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) of Team Billabong. Team Eternal’s Joshua Douglas, led his team to another first place finish, while also staking his place as the future generation of snowboarding. Joining him on the podium were Brock Couch (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.), and Matthew Grant (Truckee, Calif.).

“Everything about today’s competition highlighted the best of each athlete’s ability; the conditions were ideal, and the performances were stellar,” said head judge Don Bostick. “The solo competition delivered a David vs. Goliath performance and the high stakes race in the team competition with teams Hosoi and Caballero proved just as exciting.”

Australian Bryce Young, will be wearing the blue leader jersey going into the final stage of competition. He is closely followed by Shayne Pospisil, Mike Morrisey (Laguna Beach, Calif.), Brian Richardson (San Diego, Calif.) and Eric McHenry (Cardiff, Calif.).

The third and final stage of the Ultimate Boarder™ competition is skateboarding, which will take place on Saturday, March 20th starting at 10 a.m. at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, Reno, Nev. Admission is free to the public. In addition to the $25,000 grand prize, the “Ultimate Boarder” will receive a $5,000 Kicker audio system, 8 GB SanDisk Sansa Fuze MP3 Player, and Samsung Omnia II Phone.
