Rusty Preisendorfer’s son Clint was drafted by the New York Yankee’s organization to play in the minor leagues according to a post on the Rusty.com blog. Apparently, Clint is a rocket-hot pitcher who is already off a spring training. What does this new contract mean for Clint’s other activities? It means he has to quit almost all of them.
My contract does not let me do anything! No skateboarding, no snowboarding, no wakeboarding, but I did have them make an exception for surfing. However, my contract stipulates that there is a limit- I am not allowed to surf anything over ten feet! I pretty much told them that surfing is a part of my life and if I can’t have it I don’t know if I can play baseball.
Well, at least he’s keeping his priorities straight.

We thought finding a follow-up to the DVS Battle of the Berrics was going to be tough, but with the DC x Berrics Project Granite it looks like Steve Berra and Eric Koston have a few more promotional ideas their warehouse turned web dominator, according to a post on The Skateboard Mag.
Once a week for three weeks PJ Ladd will do a ledge trick, you have to try and do the same, and then upload the video clip of yourself. There will be one winner a week and at the end of Project Granite a grand prize winner will receive a year’s supply of DC gear AND the actual ledge that PJ used to film his tricks.
Sounds like an interesting tweak on The Battle not unlike Quiksilver’s Race to S.K.A.T.E, albeit without the racing.

The LA Times may joke that the beaches of southern California might be a great place for AIG executives to take part in a “long-distance swimming race with no lifelines” but to those who surf everyday the recent shark sightings are not all that funny.
- A surfer over the weekend reportedly was rushed by a large shark off Carlsbad, which is about seven miles north of Solana Beach. This has not been confirmed.
- A beachcomber off Bolsa Chica State Beach on Monday discovered a headless sea lion with other wounds. Perhaps this serves as evidence that adult great whites, which generally prey on much larger elephant seals off Northern California, are utilizing an increasingly dense sea lion population off Southern California.
- The remains of a seal or sea lion washed up on a beach in Carlsbad on Sunday.
- A swimmer and stand-up paddleboard surfer in the Pacific Palisedes area on Saturday reported sighting estimated seven- and eight-foot sharks, 15 minutes apart around 8 a.m. The swimmer said there were two sharks, and that one of them leaped, or breached.
- Three people atop Balboa Pier in Newport Beach on Saturday reported sighting an estimated eight-foot shark, which also breached.
We’re not looking forward to seeing any, thank you.

Portland skateboarders Taylor Appelo, 20, and Clayton Hunt, 16, were waiting at the MAX line Skidmore Fountain station early Saturday morning March 14, 2009 when they got jumped by four men in their 20s, according to a story on OregonLive.com.
Four men, three of whom appeared to be in their mid-20s and one perhaps older, approached and almost immediately began making threatening statements, Hunt said. . . “They told us we walked into the wrong tunnel,” Hunt said, referring to the area underneath Burnside Avenue. . . One man “came up to me and told me and Taylor he wanted to lay one of us out on the tracks,” Hunt said. “He said he was drunk and looking for a fight.” . . . Hunt said he and Appelo started walking away from the four but they followed and one of them shoved Appelo, who bumped into Hunt. Both fell onto the track surface.
Both skaters ran but were followed and when Appelo turned to look back he was hit in the face and knocked to the ground.
“I saw him hit the ground really hard, face first,” Hunt said. “I saw a lot of blood everywhere. I saw his teeth on the ground. It was really scary.”
Appelo was taken to the Legacy Emanual Hospital & Health Center where he was treated for a jaw broken in three places, a broken rib, dislocated thumb, and multiple facial cuts. The police hope to review video footage from the station’s security cameras and will start their investigation today.

Mini and sleek aluminum trailer maker Airstream have teamed up with with furniture brand Republic of Fritz Hansen to create the ultimate surf travel collab.
The concept will make its debut at the Interni Design Energies exhibition in the courtyards of Università degli Studi di Milano during the upcoming Salone del Mobile show held in Milan. I know it’s a mouthful, but stay with me. . . . Republic of Fritz Hansen is a Copenhagen-based firm specializing in functional, minimalist design. . . . Using the outdoor lifestyle aspects of surf culture, the firm has created a fresh new look for the Clubman and Airstream caravan.
Looks cool, but we wouldn’t want to drive it to Costa Rica.

Even though the surf is good we’ve never really found much reason to surf San Diego County’s Imperial Beach, but those who plow those polluted waters may be a little safer thanks to Wild Coast’s free hepatitis A vaccines, according to a story on KPBS.org.
He says anyone who surfs or goes in the ocean in IB regularly should get the shots twice a year. That’s because the polluted Tijuana River empties out just south of the beach. McCue says at first his group tried to discourage people from going in the water when pollution levels were high. But he says that wasn’t very effective. . . “We found it’s a much better strategy to tell people what health services are offered to them. If they do report ocean illness where can they go to get services. So, the Imperial Beach Health Center offers either free or heavily discounted treatment and vaccinations for people who report getting sick from the water here,” he says.
No, thanks. We’ll just surf elsewhere.

On the way home to Melbourne after winning the Oi Vert Jam in Rio De Janero, Brazil, new number one vert number Renton Millar got stuck in coach, according to a story in Australia’s The Age. But that was alright because he got to hang out with Tony Hawk.
“I’ve done quite a bit of flying,” says Renton Millar, “but I don’t know anyone who’s bettered that one. It was 55 hours. I got a bit of a dud ticket.” . . . “That guy really doesn’t have to work another day in his life, but he chooses to get out there and represent skating, put a smile on the faces of people who’ve loved him their whole life,” says Millar, who freely admits to being one such devotee since his first run at Bulleen bowl in 1987. On Saturday, he and Hawk skated impromptu demos in Frankston, then moved on to Prahran after rain intervened, and Hawk was still eager to go again after that too was rained off.
For the rest of Renton’s mainstream media profile follow the jump.
