Source Interlink Media, the parent company of Surfer, Surfing, Snowboarder, and Skateboarder magazine’s Action Sports Group is apparently doing to reorganization within the company.
Those reportedly no longer with the company include the former ASG President and SVP Group Publisher at Source Interlink Media Al Crolius and the director of Source Interlink Media Ken Lockwood.
Interim personnel are reportedly filling in during reorganization.
Most recently the company has purchased Weldon Owen, an Australia publisher of “illustrated reference, lifestyle, and educational books,” according to a story on Foliomag.com.
Bonnier said adding Weldon Owen will allow the company to expand its existing magazine brands and content into book publishing projects. The company said it is considering bookazines, collectible yearbooks and other book products for sale on newsstands and online.
They’re obviously not letting anything get in the way of their quest for print domination.
Jeremy Jones discusses his idea behind Deeper, a snowboard film two years in the making. And yes, we’re sure seeing Deeper will make us feel a little less macho while making resort laps through the park. Luckily, the movie doesn’t come out until the fall of 2010 so we an entire season to nut up and ride like men.
Looks like the convergence of TV and web is finally bringing some good programming to the table as Fuel TV announces they will be broadcasting the Billabong Pipeline Masters live and direct over their cable network as well as in HD online for those of us who clipped the cables years ago.
Everyone seems to be happy about it:
“We’re excited to be offering the first-ever live broadcast of an ASP World Tour event to the U.S. audience,” says Scott Paridon, FUEL TV Vice President of Production and Development. “And with our networks in Australia and Portugal also broadcasting the contest live, people across three continents will be able to watch all the amazing action at the legendary Billabong Pipeline Masters.”
“We’re thrilled to be working with FUEL TV on this project,” says Graham Stapelberg, Billabong VP of Marketing. “The Pipeline Masters has been the site of so many exciting finishes to the world tour. The greatest surfers have carved out their legacy at this world renowned wave, and this live broadcast will be one that nobody wants to miss!”
Honestly, after catching Fuel.tv’s coverage of the 2009 Tampa Am yesterday we’re not sure we need to see this on cable TV, but there’s no doubt it’s going to look good on those 62 inch Sharp Aquos screens.
Thrasher Magazine’s Jake Phelps calls Chris Cole to let him know he’s won the Skater Of The Year award for his second time in five years. Chris was pretty happy about it. How happy? “I’m just stoked out of my face,” Cole told Phelps. “Thanks for putting my shit in the mag.”
The Burton sponsored back-in-the-day snowboarding retrospective web series Power & Rails is back for season two on VBS.com.
The second season of “Powder & Rails” will features Tom Sims, Jamie Lynn, Shawn Farmer, Noah Salasnek, Chris Roach, Mike Ranquet, and Circe Wallace. Some repeat offenders from Season 1 (Shaun White, Damian Sanders, Jerry Dugan, Mike Hatchett, Tom Burt, Dave Seoane, and Jeff Brushie) will also be making appearances.
There’s nothing like look back to make us all feel old.
You’d never know the first boss on David Cross’ new show The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret is one of the best directors of his generation. Good bye Spike. On a side note Will Arnett’s character is all too familiar. . .
Titanic director James Cameron has a new film coming out that could be one of the biggest flops ever. It’s called Avatar and when he talks about his sci-fi hybrid he gets all surfy.
There’s an analogy I like to use: The surfer doesn’t make the wave, the surfer surfs the wave, and he has to know when the wave’s coming — and a good surfer senses the wave from far out and knows that it’s that wave, not this wave. You let other forces, other filmmakers, market forces, generate the wave of energy — in this case, I’m talking about the energy in CG development.
We haven’t seen an issue of Skatebook in quite some time, but apparently the editors of the teen girl magazine Seventeen have. That must be why they put the $15 book-a-zine in their special feature on “Gifts For Guys.” And Michael Ballard is so proud of it that he sent out the following press release:
When one finds themselves in a particularly awkward position the best solution is simply to bust yourself, right. Tell everyone before your problem is the focus of people’s hate on the message boards. . . . So before I answer any more email about what a sell out we are, I just want to say it is a surprise to us too. I guess we should be mad; our cool factor has been given a black eye. But then again Seventeen has a circ of nearly 2 million, maybe we should start taking lipstick and hair gel advertisements.
Apparently, Mr. Ballard doesn’t know that there is no such thing as bad PR.
Admittedly, we don’t make it over to GrindTV all that often. Okay, never. So it was with surprise and not a little shock that we discovered Erica Hosseini getting ignited by BallPark Franks and talking action sports. That girl has some nice . . . teeth.
