Apparently some girls got in a fight over a skateboard at a shop called Clout Malibu. The solution to that fight? A jello wrestling match. No Shame, no sorry.

Surfing
At 52 Perry Farrell has a new Jane’s Addiction album coming out. It’s the band’s fourth in 23 years, according to a story in the New York Post. But more than the music people wonder how Perry stays so young, while living the rock n’ roll lifestyle. Here is is secret:
Surfing, being in the water. The ocean is very powerful and big, but it’s very serene at the same time. It’s a crazy dichotomy. The ocean grounds me. The instant I get up in the morning, I’m battling children, getting them ready for school. Then I start my day and I have lots of business I attend to, and at night I’m performing. The only time I’m happily doing nothing is when I’m in the water.
Only a surfer knows the feeling. . .

It may have taken until 1:15 PM local time, but the Rip Curl Pro Portugal finally got underway at Supertubos. Daniel Ross and Chris Davidson joined the favorites by winning in Round 1 forcing Taj Burrow and Jordy Smith to surf tomorrow in the rising swell. Joel Parkinson and Gabriel Madina tied for the day’s high score of 17.87.
“The conditions improved so much in the span of one heat when compared to the warm-up just before,” Parkinson said. “It was great and everyone was getting barrels and scores. I guess it just shows how quickly things can change out there.”

According to a story on Goldcoast.com.au, Base Surfboards, the surfboard maker owned by Simon Anderson, Darren Handley and Murray Bourton has gone bankrupt.
Worrells was appointed as voluntary liquidator for the company last month when the Australian Taxation Office started putting BASE under pressure to pay off a tax debt of almost $1 million. There were hopes the company would be pulled out of financial trouble if new investors could be found, but negotiations broke down recently with interested parties and now the company will be shut down and the assets sold off.
Guess Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore will have to get their boards somewhere else from now on.

Just when we thought we’d heard pretty much every story from the monster surf spot Cortes Bank comes word of journalist Chris Dixon’s upcoming book Ghost Wave from Chronicle Books. Here’s the story:

So, it would appear that Electric is still making sunglasses (we must have lost track of them for a while there). In fact, they’ve just released a new signature frame for VeeCo surfer Dusty Payne (keeping’ it in the family and all) who says:
“I’m pumped about releasing my first signature model. They’re for sure the best sunglass comfort and style wise I’ve ever worn,” Dusty said. “Plus, the mirrored lenses are perfect for your neighborhood creep. Can’t go wrong with the D.PAYNE!”

It took a while for the fog to clear at La Graviere this morning, but when it did it became obvious that October 12, 2011 wouldn’t be a typical final day at the Quiksilver Pro France.
Old man of the sea Taylor Knox won the first quarter final over Michel Bourez, Kelly Slater lost to 17-year-old “young Brazilian” Gabriel Medina and the day was set for a shakeup.
By the time Julian Wilson met Medina in the final it was anyone’s game.
Opening their final clash with a strong 7.83 for a full-rotation forehand aerial, Medina was put on the back foot by an in-form Wilson until the dying moments, when the young Brazilian blasted several high-risk maneuvers on a lengthy lefthander to secure a 9.17 and regain the lead.
Ignoring the fact that Madina interfered with Wilson (in our opinion, the judges did not agree) and then went on to get a very high score for a good wave, the kids did bust in and steal the show. Coco Ho took down Australian Dimity Stoyle in the finals of the Oakley World Pro Junior Bali today (Monday, October 10, 2011) at Echo Beach, Canggu.
“These are a lot of the girls I compete against the the ASP 6-Star events, and they’re just as good as the girls in the ASP World Title events,” Ho said. “I definitely didn’t think it was going to be an easy event, all these girls were getting 8.00s and 9.00s all event! This is probably my last event of the year and it’s great to go out on a win.”
