To kick off a new season of Every Third Thursday, Dave Lee and the Signal Snowboards crew decided to do something really silly. Build a snowboard at the bottom of the ocean. Why? Because, apparently.

Seth Wescott, the two-time Olympic Boardercross Gold Medalist, has taken a stand against Russia’s “anti-gay propaganda” laws ahead of the Sochi Olympics, according to the Associated Press.
Wescott told The Associated Press on Wednesday that there’s potential for February’s games in Sochi (SOH’-chee) to be a “negatively-overshadowed Olympics” because of Russia’s law prohibiting promotion of “nontraditional” sexual relations. Activists have denounced the law and called for a boycott of the games.
Add this to the list of very good reasons that the Sochi Olympics should be boycotted, but it won’t be because there’s just too much damn money at stake for everyone.

Yobeat.com posted this yesterday, so we’re going to post it today because it made us laugh and put all action sports in proper perspective (at least to us, at this moment in time, today, (redundancy for poetic effect)). Airboarding. We wish we’d thought of it.

It’s old news if you’ve been following along, but good news compared to what could have happened when Luke Mitrani came down hard on a fronside double fork 1080 attempt in New Zealand and broke his neck (fractured his C5 vertebra) on September 2, 2013, according to a story on GrindTV.com.
. . . [Mitrani] underwent a successful surgery and is currently recovering. In less than two weeks he’ll be back in the U.S., where he will continue the rehabilitation and physical therapy that he has already started in Christchurch. He is expected by doctors to make a full recovery within six to twelve months, though that time frame will have him sidelined for the rest of this winter season, which means he will not be able to qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
Phew. This was another really close call for the Frends crew. And we’re glad Luke is up and walking around. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery! Having nurse Nadja Purtschert there by his side can’t be a bad thing. . .

Have you seen Union Binding Company’s Contact Pro lately? Apparently, Gigi Ruf logged 200 days of on-snow testing and motored through 20 different prototypes on the way to creating this beautiful binder.
Aside from a soft EVA cushion, the only binding-to-board contact here is a small ring around the disk. A smaller disk means a smaller binding footprint. A smaller footprint allows your board to flex and perform more naturally. . . Compatible with any traditional 4×4 mounting system, the 3 Hole, along with Burton snowboards featuring The Channel, you can mount Union Bindings on any board you choose.
Union loves this binding so much that they created a special section of their website just to tell you all about it. Can you believe a snowboard binding manufacturer would go to those lengths to communicate with consumers? At Union, they do it for you.
