For those who just love smoking a bowl on that first chair ride each morning, rocking huge dirt-head beanies, and cruising down the slopes in an Irie state of mind Burton has just the board: the Whammy Bar Marley.
Key features of the new Whammy Bar Marley board include a simulated wood-grain topsheet layered with a series of classic photos from Bob Marley’s family archives. The images reflect his love for family, music and life. In addition, the base of the board features a powerful graphic showcasing the traditional Lion of Judah integrated with the colors of the Rasta flag and Burton branding. . . “It was a natural fit to work with Burton on the Bob Marley snowboard collection,” says Rohan Marley. “Like my father, they are pioneers in their field and celebrate life’s endless possibilities.”
How’s that for a reach? It’s nice that the family can continue to live off the legend. Follow the jump for all the details. [click to continue…]
Not really sure what’s been going on at the Surf Industry Manufacturers’ Association lately, but it seems their Boot Camps have been oddly relevant. On September 22, 2010 SIMA will tackle “New Media.”
The first panel discussion of the morning, Media vs. New Media: Tracking the Transition, will showcase a discussion with the surf industry’s leading media experts on the transition to new media, its benefits and advantages, and specific learnings from the interactive endeavors of these media outlets. Moderated by Doug Palladini, the panelists will include: Rob Campbell / Editorial Director, TransWorld Media; Norb Garrett / Senior Vice President, Group Publisher, ASG; Ross Garrett / Director of Operations and Development, The Surfer’s Journal; Gene Pao / Vice President of New Media and International Development, FUEL TV; and Jonno Wells / CEO, Surfline.
It’s always entertaining to see what corporate executives from the established action media have to say about “new” media, isn’t it?

Yes, the 2010-11 snowboard season has already started and on August 14, 2010 Switzerland’s Iouri Podladtchikov and the US’s Kelly Clark won the Burton New Zealand Open Halfpipe Finals under bluebird skies that the slopestyle competitors were dreaming about.
The weather didn’t seem to co-operate with the 2010 Burton New Zealand Open Slopestylists on Friday August 13, 2010.
Due to the snow conditions and morning delays, the competition format was condensed, with all 37 men and 19 women semi-finalists going straight into a single final round, where the riders took two runs, best of which counted for their final score. The low visibility and variable snow didn’t seem to hinder the best riders, with some amazing runs being thrown down regardless.
The did not stop Switzerland’s Christian Haller (above) and America’s Jamie Anderson from the top spots on the podium. Click here for the men’s results (women’s results are not posted) or follow the jump for the official word from Burton. [click to continue…]
Every year Volcom chooses a theme and sticks to it for the entire trade show season. They’ve done hippies, hillbillies, and this year they raved it up with Volcom Techno Beach.
This clip is only one minute long. By the time the 2010 Fall Action Sports Retailer Show closes on Sunday, August 15, 2010 Volcom employees will have relived this minute 1,380 times. And then they will get to do it all again at Surf Expo next month, and at SIA in Janaury 2011. How’s that for dedication to the brand?
The ASR party train has started. Something about this second week of August business just doesn’t feel right, but we’re not going to complain.
Mark Sullivan is presenting the premiere of Tailgate Alaska: The Movie at Henry’s Pub Friday, August 13, 2010 at 8:30 PM PST. After opening their own retail stores, selling most all of their products online, and playing pretty rough with some of their highest volume retailers in recent years, it appears that Burton Snowboards (who just relaunched their website) is making an effort to give back to local shops, according to a Jake Burton letter sent to retailers and posted on The-Tackled Box.
Here’s a little of what Jake says:
While I completely back where we are at and what we have done, I also feel strongly that we need to support local shops more than ever. You are the backbone of our sport, and everyone in this industry will benefit from your growth and success. Yo will see more from us in this spirit, starting with this catalog and some of the distribution decisions we have already made. . . we know who got us here and we know how much you do for the sport. Thanks for you support and know that will will do more for you in the future.
Those are very nice thoughts. We hope local shops get some benefit from all the wonderful things Burton has planned for them because they need all the help they can get. (Click the image to read it full size)
Apparently, Trouble Andrew can’t walk because he’s ingested sixteen beers and he can’t talk because he has smoked fifteen marijuana cigarettes. Now it appears he needs a ride home, girl.
Trouble’s new video sounds like a fantasy date come true. Nice to see Mr. Andrew knows his demo so well. . . he’s rebellious.
