Proving that stadium rock action sporting is still not dead in Europe Zurich’s Freestyle.CH packed in 32,000 people on September 22-23, 2011 for a multisport hucking contest (featured here is snowboard semi-finals action).

Over the past eight years Bear Mountain’s Hot Dawgs & Hand Rails event has become both the official summer snowboarding ender, and SoCal’s winter kick-off (opening day could be a month away).
On Saturday, September 24, 2011 thousands of shred fans arrived at Bear Mountain to see some rail riding, hang out, and pick up free stuff from dozens of the action industry’s most famous brands. We’ve never seen Bear Mountain’s parking lot so full. In fact, we had to park halfway up the mountain on a rutted, grassy slope surrounded by some of Southern California’s finest shred tailgaters.
After what seemed like hours (3?) of rail jamming on all fronts of the delicious setup, judges JP Walker, Joe Sexton, Lauri Heiskari, and Seth Huot handed the $10,000 first prize check to Minnesota rail slayer Ryan Paul (maybe his frontflip wall ride to 50-50 had something to do with it).
HDHR Results
1. Ryan Paul $10,000
2. Brandon Hobush $3,000
3. Jesse Paul $1,000

“I’m humbled at how big this event has grown, and definitely excited about its future” says Snowboy Productions President Krush Kulesza. “With Seattle and our new SF stop, plus our AM qualifier series (The Feeders!) in Portland, Spokane and Sacramento, we’ve got the whole west coast covered from the Bay to the Border.”

Laura Lynn Murphey (our favorite half of the DJ duo Heart + Heat) has just joined Bonfire’s product development team.
“We are very happy to have Laura Lynn added to our Portland crew. Her experience and dedication to snowboarding will not only enhance our product line but also add to Bonfire’s legacy of truly being a brand designed, developed and marketed by snowboarders for snowboarders,” says Product/Marketing Manager Amy Eichner.
Shaun White has a new flavor of gum according to a story in the New York Times, and sadly, it’s not called “tangy ginger sweat.”
Whitemint, a new flavor of chewing gum by Stride, the Kraft Foods brand, is named for the athlete and features his likeness on the package. White, who appeared briefly in a commercial for a Stride line called 2.0 that was first shown in June, stars in a new commercial for Whitemint scheduled to begin on Monday.
And as only a packaged good marketing person could say: “some consumers may derive “emotional benefits” from chewing gum affiliated with the popular athlete.” Is that even possible?
The world premiere of Vacation (Special Blend, Forum & Foursquare movie) is going down on the sand in Huntington Beach, California (just North of the HB Pier) on September 28, 2011 at 8 PM, but those in Eurolandia should not feel left out. No. Not in the least. Vacation is doing a Europe lap in hitting Austria, Spain, France, Italy, and the Netherlands during the first week in October. Follow the jump for all the details.
