Bon Hiver, the manufacturers of “freebase” snowboarding bindings, has recalled three of their binding models due to base plates that “fracture during use.”
The recalled products are Bon Hiver Freebase snowboard bindings in the following models: 11 Series – Assault or Infrared, 13 Series – Arsenal or Hellfire and 18 Series – Stealth or Storm. The bindings are sold in pairs. Each binding is made up of two pieces: a boot base and a base plate. The boot base, which attaches to the snowboarder’s boot, has a high back, ankle strap, toe strap and footplate. . . The series number is located next to the logo on the back of the boot base and on the side of one of the footplates. The base plate is flat and made of black plastic. It has four locking mechanisms to attach it to the board.
While there have been no reported injuries or property damage if you have these bindings you should return them to Bon Hiver for “a free repair and a 20 percent refund of the purchase price.” For the official info follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Each spring the adult entertainers of Southern California flock to local mountains to snowboard with their boobies out. It’s one of the least known local mountain traditions and is probably why it took the crew at Europe’s Snowbroader.com to bring it to our attention.
Bandi Bratner made questionable use of the GoPro to make sure it was all captured in HD glory. It’s a rite of spring, don’t knocker it. Get tit? For the NSFW video follow the jump. [click to continue…]

The massive snowfall that had so many snowboarders charging for the mountains this weekend (March 16-18, 2012) claimed the life of a 30-year-old man at central California’s China Peak Ski Resort according to a story in the Fresno Bee.
The man was snowboarding alone on one of the slopes when he fell head-first into deep snow and suffocated, China Peak owner and general manager Tim Cohee said. Another visitor to the resort saw the base of the man’s snowboard sticking out of the snow and pulled him out a few minutes after he fell in.
This is the first death at China Peak this year, but the second deep snow snowboard death in as many seasons. Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends.

It is amazing that Shaun White can continue to dominate both halfpipe and slopestyle. Here is his Euro X Games slope gold medal run. He went a little easy on the rails, but the rest was pretty solid. [Wonder why the clip got taken down? Was it the judges?]

An avalanche that local rangers are calling a “100-year-event” blazed a path down Mt. Baker’s Shuksan Arm on Thursday morning March 16, 2012 according to a story on KIROtv.
Warming temperatures have caused unstable snow conditions, causing the Mt. Baker Ski Area to close. . . According to the Mt. Baker snow report, the area has received 110 inches of snowfall in the last six days, and snowfall this month has surpassed the entire month of March in the record year of 1998-1999.
The slide closed Mt. Baker for the day, but thankfully, no one was hurt and the only thing the slide destroyed were trees. Baker was closed yesterday, but will be back open today at 9 AM.

Nick Dodov, a 26-year-old snowboarder from Truckee, California is the second person to die in an avalanche that occurred near Haines, Alaska on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, according to a story on Reuters.
Dodov had been snowboarding in an area north of Haines that is popular with helicopter skiers, according to the troopers. Another member of his party, helicopter-skiing guide Robert Liberman, 35, of Telluride, Colorado, died at the scene Tuesday. . . Both men were buried in six to eight feet of snow, trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said. They would probably not have been found had they not been wearing avalanche beacons, she added.
Dodov was flown to Seattle in critical condition, but did not make it. Our thoughts are with Dodov’s family and friends.

It’s been two months since the official launch of Youtube’s new “channel strategy.” As it hasn’t changed our viewing habits, nor improved our Youtube experience in any way we were curious to see how the channels were doing. Using the numbers reported on the channels main pages we lined them all up.
Just for fun, we threw Transworld.TV in the mix just to see how a site that didn’t get $1 million dollars of start up capital was faring against the Google funded players. We also factored in the potential total revenue (shared between Youtube and the channel) generated by the channels views based on the oft quoted “quality content” CPM of $20.
Here’s how they stack up:
Subs Views Revenue
Redbull Media House 386,626 259,389,937 $5,187,798
Alli Sports 28,240 10,134,195 $202,683
Transworld TV 10,526 5,470,641 $109,412
Ride Channel 32,329 4,164,433 $83,288
Network A 28,320 1,951,528 $39,030
*Note: this is not a scientific comparison and should be used for
entertainment purposes only for all kinds of reasons including the
fact that some channels have been up much longer than others.
There is money in this game, but it seems that few of the channels (aside from Redbull) have created anything that has “gone viral.” And when you compare these channels to something like the Philip Defranco Show which has 2 million subscribers and 825 million views so far it suggests that sitting someone in front of a camera in a studio with some clever writing is a much more efficient use of funding than sending a production team around the world chasing board riders. But don’t let that stop you, you action content producers you.
