Kanoa Gets His Own G-Shock

by The Editors on May 22, 2019

A solid, affordable, good looking tide watch is hard to come by in these time of massively clunky GPS fitness watches, but Casio has one and it’s a G-ShockKanoa Igarashi’s G-Shock in fact.

The new watch is based on the G-LIDE GLX5600 which features a tide graph, an indispensable tool for surfers. The thin, square shape of the watch ensures that it does not obstruct the wrist while surfing. The GLX5600KI-7 features a semi-transparent body that evokes the ocean and is paired with a mirror finish face that gives the watch a simple, cool look. Igarashi’s “Kanoa” signature is inscribed on the upper center of the watch face and on the strap keeper and case back, as well as in illumination when the backlight is turned on.

The G-Lide also features 29 times zone, stop watch, countdown timer, two alarms, and is water resistant to 200 meters. It’s going to cost $130 and will be available in July at select jewelers, the G-SHOCK Soho Store and at gshock.com. For all the details, please follow the jump.

Burton Makes The Best Travel Bags

by The Editors on April 17, 2019

We don’t have much more to say about it than that (but watch us). In the world of travel bags (and we mean the world) no one makes better bags than Burton. In fact, we believe that of all the things Burton designs and has manufactured nothing comes close to their luggage. Not their snowboards, boots, goggles, helmets, wovens, outerwear, nothing. In our opinion Burton’s bags stand above any other luggage manufacturer in the world. If you don’t trust us, trust Coachella 2019 performers RÜFÜS DU SOL. They travel all the time and what bags do they prefer? Burton. To check out Burton’s complete line of bags, click the link.

Vans Steps In To Surf Boots

by The Editors on April 10, 2019

These new Vans surf boots take some style nods from the classic Vans Old Skools and put them out on the water. Good idea they waited until after April Fools Day to kick this off, right?

Grounded by the ubiquitous Vans Sidestripe and iconic checkerboard detailing, the Surf Boot Mid and Surf Boot Hi are designed 100% with performance and function in mind, emphasizing feature benefits such as grip, skin-tight fit and climate versatility. Everything Vans knows about skateboarding, like Vans’ original waffle grip and boardfeel, has been reimagined in a surf bootie design to elevate your surfing in all conditions. Vans’ surf booties are so grippy, you’ll want to wear them all the time, even in warm water! Every inch and stitch have been crafted for comfort and performance—Off The Wall and into the water.

They even threw in a pair of fly-less surf trunks to boot. The booties and trunks drop on Saturday, April 13, 2019. For all the official details and a closer look at the boots (don’t call them booties), please follow the jump.

Adidas Makes An Interesting Skate Shoe

by The Editors on February 4, 2019

It is, right? We’re not usually into the whole Adidas sporty spice thing, but look at that. The 3ST.004 doesn’t look too sporty, or too skatey. It looks like Adidas got their stripes going backwards on this one, but we’re okay with that. Tyshawn Jones will look smooth in these flip catchers, for sure. Here’s what Adidas says about them:

“Building off the design mentality of the 3ST family, the 3ST.004 is positioned to further progress and challenge skateboarding footwear. The low-profile forefoot and super tacky wrapping on the sidewall provide board feel like no other. With such great board feel, the intent is to never bail, but let’s face it, it happens. Therefore, we’ve placed BOOST in the heel of the shoe for protection and support when bailing.” says the brand’s Senior Footwear Designer, Scott Johnston. “Considering that Tyshawn Jones was the muse for the project, the shoe needs to not only perform, but look iconic and stand out. The shoe incorporates classic adidas aesthetics and modern design lines to keep you looking fly in the streets.”

And yes, we all want to be “looking fly in the streets,” Scott. We certainly do. The 3ST.004 will be in specialty retailers and Adidas online starting February 7, 2019. If you’ve got $120 they can be yours.

DC Has Boot For Burton’s Step-on

by The Editors on January 30, 2019

Burton has licensed a bit of its “Step On” binding technology to DC so they can build a boot that fits. We were going to say this was the first time Burton has licensed their tech to another company, but we were reminded that they may have done some licensing with their 3-D binding hole pattern at one point, and there may be some others that we’re forgetting. Anyone? Either way, it’s a nice thing to do for people who want DC boots, but want to use them with the Burton Step On binding. Here’s what Chris Cunningham, SVP of Product at Burton had to say about it:

Ultimately, we’d like to see Step On become the standard platform that all non-strap-based boot/binding interfaces are based on, regardless of brand. And we’re really happy that DC will become the first brand to license Step On technology so that riders who prefer DC boots can also benefit from the convenience and performance of Burton Step On bindings.”

Yes, owning the standard for step-in bindings would be quite nice. The DC boot, which looks pretty good (we’re BOA fans), will be out for men and women in the fall of 2020. We still haven’t tried any step-in bindings since they came around the last time and we’re looking forward to trying out the Step On soon. For the official word from Burton, please follow the jump.

Burton Recycles The Bright 90s

by The Editors on December 6, 2018

We’re not that interested in doing 1992 over again, but if you missed the first go-round then boy does Burton have something for you in their 92 Retro Collection. The capsule features Jason Ford-a-licious block color jackets, classic asym air 45 logo graphics on a Family Tree Speed Date, Trick Pilot, and Stun Gun boards and much, much more.

Honor the past while experiencing the latest performance with this modern, more technical take on an iconic era.

Iconic, indeed, but reminds us of something the band Jamie Wednesday once said, “Pop will eat itself.”

One of these shoes is Tony Hawk’s latest designed Proto the other is an old skate shoe from the end of the 80s.

Tony Hawk’s signature shoe, the Lakai Proto, is available now in Lakai retailers around the world. The Proto is inspired by Tony’s creative impact on skateboarding. It is designed and developed to provide support and comfort for everyday skateboarding. This limited Powell colorway is a nod to Tony’s most iconic footage during the Bones Brigade era.
