Jake Burton Carpenter’s final personal project was called Mine 77. With it he reportedly got to build, design, and create products for himself without thinking about the market, or Burton’s customers, or anything else that gets in the way of personal creativity. At least that’s the brand story.
Burton just dropped the latest collection (in commemoration of Jake) and it includes this rocket Gore-Tex 11-Pocket Coverall. Here’s what Timi Carpenter says about it:

We’re always pleased for a new GoPro with a higher number because it means the chances of this one being a consistently usable camera are at least hypothetically increased. The new GoPro Hero 9 Black has some great new features (bigger battery, screen on the front) that will make it easier to use in all kinds of situations. And hopefully, this one can survive an in and out of the water trip without the back LCD screen failing. Guess we’ll have to see on that one. (Can you tell we’ve had trouble with every single GoPro we’ve owned?)
We surfed all winter with an Apple Watch safely tucked beneath the cuff of our wetsuit. Several times the wetsuit got blasted up our arm, leaving the watch exposed, but still attached. . . luckily.
Now that summer has arrived and we’re more likely to be surfing without a wetsuit, the Apple Watch’s post and hole band closure isn’t looking as solid as it has in the past. Though we’ve never had one fall open, it doesn’t seem like a good idea to hang it out there as a test. That’s why we were stoked to see that Urban Armor Gear has added a Tang buckle to a silicone band that keeps the clean lines of Apples silicone band while adding the safety of a Tang buckle. And though the bands have a buckle, they still keep the strap clean by feeding the loose end back under the band just like the Apple band.
The UAG bands come in two styles the Scout and Civilian. The Scout is a single color band that comes in three colors (black, olive, and orange) and retails for $29.95. The Civilian features two layers of silicone, a “branded stainless steel buckle” and comes in two colors (black/orange and slate/orange). It retails for $39.95.

We’re pretty much to the point where we’d like all our footwear to feature BOA closures. They are quick to lock down, easy to adjust on the fly, and simple to replace when they wear out. So, we were glad to see that we are not alone in our love for the twisties and Sage Kotsenburg has joined Travis Rice and Mark Sollors on the BOA snow team.

One of the major label shoe brands is launching an all new skateboarding shoe today. This new shoe reportedly “prioritizes performance, quality and flawless comfort into a classic vulcanized design. . . The exterior features a high foxing tape that provides a low profile stance and protection against wear-and-tear, along with a deeper foot placement that offers the ultimate connection to the skateboard.”
Sounds like another half-hearted update to one of their old, dusty tennis shoe designs. Nice work, major shoe brand. Kudos.

We’re done riding boots that don’t have Boa closures. We’ve rarely had a GoPro camera that functioned at all, let alone allowed us to bring back epic footage of our action fumbling, however, everyone seems to love these cameras so here’s the latest: the GoPro Hero 8. With each additional GoPro product launch we hope Gopro will release something that we can depend on day in and day out. Who knows, maybe this is finally the one.
