. . . grabbed the microphone from Alien Workshop Co-founder Chris Carter and told the hundreds of Zumiez’s employees, athletes and industry executives in attendance that he is buying the legendary skate company from Burton.
First he kickflips a car, now this? It would be understandable that Burton would want to shed a company that never seemed to make sense in its brand portfolio, but why Dyrdek would want to own a skateboard hardgoods company (aside from just keeping it alive) is anyone’s guess?
Burton’s Chief Operations Officer Mike Rees reeled in everyone a little in an email sent out early this afternoon (January 11, 2012) . “While Rob’s message was definitely premature, we did want to confirm that we are in an open dialog with him about a possible purchase,” Rees said. “At this point, please note that nothing is confirmed, and we will absolutely do a formal announcement when and/or if that transition happens.”
On Saturday night, January 7, 2011 friends of skateboarding and photography gathered at Laguna Beach, California’s AR4T Gallery to support the opening of the skateboarding photography group show Still Life With Wood featuring the photography of James Cassimus, Grant Brittain, Dave Swift, Atiba Jefferson, Miki Vuckovich, and Jon Humphrey’s along with art from Jay Croft and music from el mysterioso. The show runs January 5 – 22, 2012 so there is still time to check it out.
We’re still trying to process everything we saw, thought and experienced at day one of the Agenda Show at the Convention Center in Long Beach, California. In the meantime here is a photo gallery from both days of the show.
Blitz Distribution has signed a multi-year deal to distribute the snowboard brand Technine in the United States, according to President Per Welinder.
“Blitz has been looking into getting involved in the snowboard industry for years and to have the chance to partner up with E-Stone and his crew at Technine is a perfect match,” Welinder says. “Technine has a super strong focus on its athletes and their lifestyles much like the brands we have built in the skateboard industry over the years. We are poised and ready to work hard together for good times ahead with Technine.”
Stone is excited about the new deal.
“Teaming up with Blitz is a dream come true. It’s been a long road for Technine and we’ve had many ups and downs over the past 19 years,” Stone said. “This partnership with Blitz couldn’t have happened at a better time. We’re one year away from our 20-year anniversary and joining a group of like-minded people from the skate industry–which we’ve learned so much from–is a breath of fresh air.”
This is Blitz’s second announcement this week. Early they signed Nick Trapasso and Patrick Pasquale’sLife Extension Skateboard Group. Follow the jump for the official Technine distribution info. [click to continue…]
Here’s a new 17 seconds of shoe commercial from Lakai. It’s funny.
Featuring Raven Tershy, shot and edited by Aaron Meza with assistance from Ty Evans. Special thanks to Johannes Gamble, Logan Lara and Angelo for helping make it happen.
Is it right foot goofy, left foot regular or does it even matter? Will figure it out at Agenda.
A company called Aris Sporthas apparently completely redesigned skateboarding using alien technology. The new board is not surprisingly called the Blade Runner and it is described as a “alien vehicle.” We can be certain of two alien elements to their business: their profits will be invisible and their losses will be out of this world. But we doubt this will dampen their spirits much.
An angry, old, British man (if that’s not redundant) is in court for allegedly knocking a 10-year-old skateboarder to the ground and kneeing him in the face after becoming upset by the noise the skateboarder was making, according to a story in The Argus.
A jury at Hove Crown Court was told yesterday (January 3) Smith was frustrated with children playing on skateboards in Brighton. . . The boy – who was with friends – suffered an eye injury. . . He also said he lost consciousness during the attack on April 26 last year.
We don’t understand the current state of prime time television. Seems it’s all either grisly murder investigations or bad talent shows. Last night, however, Tony Hawk dropped into TV as himself on Tim Allen‘s Cabelas like sitcom Last Man Standing.
In this episode a Dingoesque bass fishing pro stirs up trouble for Allen. Then Tony Hawk rolls in and suggests the outdoor store move “all the hunting crap” to put in an indoor skate park. The show is not entirely unfunny, and Tony didn’t ruin it. Click the link to watch the entire episode. Tony appears as a punchline in the last four minutes.
