Tired of having to carry your skateboard and your briefcase into business meetings? It would appear that former University of South Florida astro physics student Alexi Novitzky has the solution. According to a story on ABC Action News it’s called “The Skatecase.”
“You open this one up and you look inside,” he said showing us the Skatecase. It’s half skateboard and half briefcase. “You can fit two composition books deep in there as well as many pencils.”
Novitzky obviously needs to get together with Valet My Skate inventor Tom Piszkin for a skatecase lock. You can’t just leave those things lying around.
etnies founder Pierre-André Senizergues has created a full-scale model of his version of the skate house of the future for the Public Domaine show at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris.
A full-scale, 70 square-meter (753.5 -square foot) version of this original idea and vision created by Pierre-André Senizergues, designed by artist, Gil Le Bon Delapointe and supervised by Francois Perrin, is now a reality and on display at La Gaîté Lyrique Public Domaine. The PAS House is a glimpse into the future that shows what the NEXT 25 years may look like when combining the powerful influence of skateboarding with a dwelling place.
If you’re thinking about remodeling your kitchen this might just be the way to go. It’s also another reason to visit Paris before the Public Domaine show closes August 7, 2011. Follow the jump for more. [click to continue…]

Ruth Hassell is the architect responsible for Quiksilver’s headquarters in Huntington Beach, California. And when she’s not designing clever ways to make the interior of a two story concrete pushups look more inviting she’ apparently had time to design a home for her family in Tustin, California’s Lemon Heights, according to a story on The Is Brand X.
“I wanted the house to be a vivid reflection of built work that was Californian and a direct response to our time and to this place,” she says, “not a dim reflection of a misremembered style from another lifetime and another continent.” . . . Free from constraints, Hasell designed her three-bedroom, three-bathroom house that harnesses natural light, conserves energy and enhances comfort throughout 3,300 square feet dug into the eucalyptus-shaded slope.
From the look of this beautiful home she’s seems to be most comfortable working in concrete. Which is probably good because the outside of her house looks quite like the inside of Quik.
Ever wondered what it’s like to work for a real, live snowboard company designing logos, T-shirts, graphics, and even gloves? On Friday, March 12, 2010, Rome Snowboard Design Syndicate art worker Shaun Dumont will answer all those questions and more via the RomeSDS Twitter beginning at Noon Pacific Time (3 PM EST). And there will be prizes so ask a question and enter to win.
Submit your question in the “What Are You Doing?” box. End your question with a #Romedesign
Dumont will fire back his answers to your questions. All you need to do to be entered for the new 2011 Outerwear Kit, is ask a question with the #Romedesign “hashtag” in it during the designated time, and we’ll be picking a question tweeter at random and hooking them up.
Maybe we’ll log in and ask Shaun who his biggest graphic design inspiration is. Or you can do that for us.
Hypebeast dives into the beast behind the hype with SF designer Benny Gold. His work for HUF, Carhartt, and Gravis has always confounded us with it’s simplistic, lo-fi lines. Then again, making good design look simple is one sign of genius.
Union Binding, Coal Headwear, andSnowboard Magazine graphic designer Aaron Draplin has become one of the most influential designers working today. Last year, when the Obama administration wanted a graphic that would communicate their economic stimulus plans they turned to Aaron to create the logo. The president eventually presented Aaron’s work to the nation himself. Recently Aaron has been on the national speaking circuit with the AIGA sharing his story with design students and professionals. But the reason more and more people are becoming Draplin fans is through his Field Notes Brand Notebooks. The simple, “paper, folded and stapled books made in America” is replacing the Moleskine as the world’s hippest analog note taking device. We saw Mr. Draplin near the Coal booth and asked him to tell us the Field Notes story. [Link: Draplin Design Co. and Field Notes Brand]
This beach house in the Dominican Republic designed by Spanish architecture firm A-cero appears to have more skateable surfaces that your average skatepark.
. . . stunning housing project in La Romana (Dominican Republic) built entirely with the indigenous stone of Coralline that really prospers with the abundance of sunshine. The two blocks that shoot up like waves are fantastic and provide vertical covering. They also look like something Tony Hawk might dream up for his beach house.
Last summer while in Portland we had the opportunity to take a tour of Nemo’s Portland, Oregon headquarters with agency founder Trevor Graves. Having known Trevor for a long, long time, mostly as a snowboard photographer, we were blown away by how smooth, professional, and polished Trevor and Nemo have become. [click to continue…]
