We should have known when we boarded our flight to NYC just behind two penguins (in pet carriers, seriously) that it was going to be a cold, cold week in New York City. As the Agenda Show NYC opened their doors at 9 AM on January 23, 2013 the temperature on the street outside 82 Mercer St. was hovering in the mid teens and the entire city seemed to be bundled up like Arctic explorers on business trips. Inside the brick walled Agenda space, however, more than 120 street, skate, and even snow brands heated things right up. The free coffee didn’t hurt either.
Each year the Agenda NYC show becomes a more important gathering for street brands and East Coast action and style retailers, and no one was going to let the Manhattan deep freeze keep them off their Agenda game. Click the link for a full photo gallery and you’ll see what we mean.

This collaboration between Supra and Berlin sneaker emporium Solebox just might be the coolest Supra Skytop III yet. Why? It they glow in the dark. Yep. Those dull green glow that has fascinated us all since we were four years old.
The SOLEBOX Skytop III upper is outfitted with a plush grey suede upper and green accents. The highlight of the stylish mid top, however, is the translucent grey, glow-in-the-dark TPR cage, heel pull, and outsole, all of which glow a bright green at night. The shoe has a green microfiber tongue and padded lining, SOLEBOX branded sock liner and aglets. It rests on a comfortable, lightweight, white SUPRAFOAM midsole, and it comes with a custom screen printed lace bag with alternate green laces.

The Agenda Show kicked off their 10th Anniversary year with 550 brands showing, mobs of retailers packing the aisles, Chris Brown, Dr. Dre, and a new partnership with Reed Exhibitions.
Though he may play it down, Agenda Show founder Aaron Levant has finally outgrown his underdog status for good. He’s rolling with the big boys now, and it should come as no surprise that it suits both he and the Agenda Show quite well.

The SnowSports Industry of America released their fall SIA RetailTRAK numbers today (December 6, 2012) for the period August through October 2012 and it wasn’t good news.
The snow sports market declined 2%, but reached $616M in sales so far this season (August through October) despite significant disruptions in retail sales in the South and Northeast regions due to Hurricane Sandy, uncertainty in the face of the “fiscal cliff,” and lack of momentum from the snow-challenged 2011/2012 season.
And you thought last fall was bad for sales? We’ll just pray for a good Christmas. For the official word from SIA, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

After announcing that it’s back-to-school sales were softer in the third quarter Zumiez shares fell in after-hours trading by seven percent on Thursday evening November 29, 2012, according to a story on Bloomberg Businessweek.
Zumiez reported net income of $12.7 million, or 40 cents per share, for the period that ended Oct. 29. This is down from $14.1 million, or 45 cents per share, in the third quarter of the prior year. The most recent quarter included 10 cents per share in costs tied to its acquisition of Blue Tomato and 1 cent per share of costs tied with its relocation of its corporate offices to Lynnwood, Wash.
The company blamed a drop in November sales on Superstorm Sandy. Why not? Zumiez stock bounced a little this morning and honestly, minor dips of this size are barely worth mentioning. But we already typed it in this far (and you’re reading it) so whateves.

Don’t let the financial trouble at Billabong and Quiksilver suggest that all is not well in the action fashion industry. There’s no problem if you’re VF Corp. In financial results released today VF says they’re total revenues are up 14 percent, their gross margin is up to a record 46.7, their operating margin has reached 17.5 percent and that all adds up to a record quarter. And the “Outdoor & Action Sports group helped out.
Excluding Timberland, Outdoor & Action Sports operating income rose 16 percent and operating margin increased 220 basis points to an all-time high of 25.7 percent compared with 23.5 percent in the 2011 period. On a GAAP basis, operating income for the coalition increased 29 percent with a flat year-over-year operating margin, reflecting the impact of Timberland. . . Double-digit constant dollar revenue growth in Outdoor & Action Sports should continue in the fourth quarter, driven by strong performance by The North Face® and Vans® brands. Both brands should benefit from new store openings, and comp store and e-commerce growth, supported by higher levels of marketing spending in key regions. For the full year, Outdoor & Action Sports revenues are expected to grow at the higher end of the 25-30 percent range provided in February 2012, with constant dollar organic revenues growing at a mid-teen percentage rate.
Take that everyone else. Follow the jump for the rest of the official word, or click here for full financials. Oh, and as usual Reef did not even earn a mention in the quarterly report. [click to continue…]

The surf wear giant Quiksilver is reportedly expanding its online retail presence with stores inside eBay’s Fashion Mall, according to a story on Insideretailing.com.au.
Gary Wall, GM of Quiksilver Australasia, said the move reflects the ongoing evolution of the online marketplace. . . “It is important to understand that eBay has evolved from an auction and secondhand marketplace to a serious full price channel and today the majority of eBay listings are fixed price and new product sales,” Wall said. . . “EBay is one of the biggest online clothing sellers and customers have been purchasing our products on eBay for many years but unfortunately from unauthorised sellers where we cannot guarantee authenticity of the product or appropriate customer service levels.
eBay would seem to streamline right in with Quik’s TJ Maxx, Ross, and Tuesday Morning distribution channel.
