Jim Shubin’s Endemic Agenda

by The Editors on April 19, 2013

Jim Shubin 2The Agenda Show is quickly escaping from the “four people on staff” mode that saw it through most of its first decade with a series of quality staff additions. The newest member of the team is Jim Shubin. He’s the new director of endemic relations for the show.

Shubin’s deep connections in the industry will undoubtedly strengthen AGENDA’s firm standing as the leading forum for both up-and-coming and established brands as the show continues to expand globally. A Southern California native, Shubin helped launch and grow Drawls and Stepson apparel lines to over $10 million sales before joining Dwindle Distribution, where he oversaw sales and marketing for the most influential brands in skateboarding and also launched Almost Skateboards.

Congrats, Mr. Shubin. For the official word from Agenda, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Supra is celebrating the opening of their first California retail store. It’s in Santa Monica, of course.

“We are pleased with the performance of our first two stores and the response from the public has been amazing,” said a SUPRA spokesperson. “We had many potential locations we were looking at for our third store, but Santa Monica made the most sense because Southern California is where the brand was born. It’s a coming home of sorts, and we’re excited about the location.”

Place looks mighty smooth, no? The Supra store is located at 304 Santa Monica Blvd, in Santa Monica, California. Follow the jump for the official details. [click to continue…]

Only In A Spokane: Skate Shop Standoff

by The Editors on March 13, 2013

Srx Standoff T620

And unnamed Spokane, Washington man allegedly attacked his neighbor with a machete and then fled into Hillyard Skateboards tearly this morning (March 13, 2013) where he holed up for seven hours while police negotiators tried to talk him into coming out, according to the Spokesman Review.

Officers called in SWAT and hostage negotiation teams. . . “For a period of time we thought there was another person in there as the suspect was actually holding up a mannequin behind a window and talking back and forth as if there was two people,” Arleth said. . . Police shot gas canisters into the business and tried to contact the man via loudspeaker. . . Arleth said they could hear the man speaking but that he never directly responded to the negotiators.

When officers finally got inside the man attempted to stab the officers with a 3-foot-long wooden spear. Spokane locals will not be surprised by the notion that police believe a controlled substance and/or mental health issues may be to blame.

Patagonia’s Bowery Surf Shop Moving Forward

by The Editors on March 5, 2013

Patagonia-Bowery-Update-1-620X465The one thing New York City needs right now is another surf shop, right? And Patagonia is going to give it to them right straight in the Bowery. Work has reportedly begun at 313 Bowery according to a story on Bowery Boogie.

A batch of permits was recently filed with the DOB for “structural work in an existing store” and for the forthcoming illuminated “Fish” sign. Plus, a mess of scaffolding also made an appearance yesterday morning. Patagonia initially intended to open the surf shop in the fall, but Hurricane Sandy totally sidelined the project. With work already underway, a summertime launch doesn’t seem out of the question.

Yeah, they’d almost have to have it done by summer. For more, click the link.

Agenda Jumps Las Vegas With Modern Assembly

by The Editors on February 19, 2013

#Agendavegas InstagramThe Agenda Show will be dropping in on Las Vegas in August 2013 as part of a strategic alliance called Modern Assembly. Agenda will join AccessoriesTheShow, Capsule, Liberty, MRket, and Stitch at the Venetian and Sands Expo.

In a move that dispels the myths and competitive nature between the fashion tradeshows of yesteryear, the shows that comprise Modern Assembly will provide an ideal mix of resources in the right environments, with the utmost of convenience by co-locating and cross-marketing. Starting this February, Modern Assembly will present a strategic, unified and global approach to promoting Las Vegas as a major fashion destination, to elevate the experience for all participants.

Agenda’s Aaron Levant believes this union of smaller shows is the perfect way to march into the Las Vegas market.

“The Agenda Show thrives on deeply established exhibitor and retailer relationships in the streetwear, lifestyle, and action sports industries and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of this new union of shows,” says Aaron Levant, founder of Agenda. “Modern Assembly will solve the increasing feelings of discontent surrounding the Las Vegas market, by offering a familiar and trusted trade show environment which houses four remarkable shows under one roof.”

We’re looking forward to the Las Vegas August heat already. Pool parties anyone? For the official word, follow the jump. [click to continue…]

Agenda Show Heats Up A Cold City

by The Editors on January 23, 2013

We should have known when we boarded our flight to NYC just behind two penguins (in pet carriers, seriously) that it was going to be a cold, cold week in New York City. As the Agenda Show NYC opened their doors at 9 AM on January 23, 2013 the temperature on the street outside 82 Mercer St. was hovering in the mid teens and the entire city seemed to be bundled up like Arctic explorers on business trips. Inside the brick walled Agenda space, however, more than 120 street, skate, and even snow brands heated things right up. The free coffee didn’t hurt either.

Each year the Agenda NYC show becomes a more important gathering for street brands and East Coast action and style retailers, and no one was going to let the Manhattan deep freeze keep them off their Agenda game. Click the link for a full photo gallery and you’ll see what we mean.
