In a post welcoming Odd Future’s pop-up shop to Fairfax titled Killin ‘Em All, Bobby Hundreds kicks down one of the best rants on what it means to be new, and fresh, and popping. The entire post is worth reading, but here’s the big hit:
Streetwear is back, FAIRFAX is back…in a big big way, and you’d be stupid to not admit that Odd Future played a big big role in it. The best part is these guys don’t give a flying OF what you think, what I’m saying about them right now on this blog, how anybody did it before them, how the game is supposed to be played. To them, there aren’t even rules to break — there’s no field, there’s just them with baseball bats, in a glass room – they don’t see walls or limitations, and they’re swinging with reckless abandon. (Sometimes they’re aiming for all the people who doubted them, ignored, dismissed, and marginalized them) . . . And this is why I love Odd Future. Because they are doing everything right, the way a teenager is meant to be angry and rebellious, the way the youth are meant to upset the setup.
How’s that for a perfect reminder to everyone who thinks they’ve seen it all before?

The New York Post is saying that things at action mall retailer PacSun aren’t going as well as many at the company would like.
“Dude — if you can front us some dough to help cover the rent now, there will be a sweet payoff later.”
That, in essence, is the deal that surf-and-skate retailer Pacific Sunwear of California has been floating with private-equity investors as it scrambles for cash to pay the punishing leases for its struggling, mall-based shops. . . In addition to shuttering dozens of its more than 800 stores this year and haggling with landlords for lower rents, PacSun recently hired Los Angeles investment bank Guggenheim Partners to raise cash, sources told The Post.
Sadder news still is that it seems few investors are interested in chaining themselves to the PacSun anchor. Looks like it won’t be long now.

Quiksilver’s Boardrider Club store at Abbot Kinney and Venice Boulevards in Venice, California got the entire storefront painted sometime during the night on Saturday, November 12, 2011, according to a post on Yo! Venice.
On Saturday vandals “hose” painted “GO HOME” across the entire storefront, getting paint all over the newly conditioned brick, metal and glass.
The store had only been officially open for 24 hours. It would appear that some of the locals aren’t exactly down with the publicly traded surf clothing company putting a store in their neighborhood.

Zumiez Reno store manager Frank Osborn was driving home to Incline, Nevada on the Mt. Rose highway on Thursday, November 3, 2011 when he saw a car slide off the road and down a cliff. He knew he had to do something according to a story in the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Osborn pulled over to the right, called 911, and looked in his car for rope. . . When he couldn’t find rope, he said he grabbed the [hundred foot long garden] hose. . . “I could hear a baby crying,” Osborn said. . . When he got to the car below, a mother and her 2-year-old son, were standing outside of the car. “They both seemed like they were in shock and cold, but I couldn’t believe they were OK and not hurt, no blood.”
Osborn stuffed the boy into his hoodie and climbed the hose back to the road and put him in his car. By then to others had arrived to help. Good to know Zumiez employees are overly helpful even when they’re not moving units.
