Last Sunday (October 11, 2015) the Tony Hawk Foundation took over Ron Burkle’s Green Acres Estate in Beverly Hills for the 12th Annual Stand Up For Skateparks benefit. The day included performances by The Vandals, DJ Z-Trip and appearances by some of Mr. Hawk’s celebrity friends including: Anthony Kiedis, Perry Farrell, David Spade, Johnny Knoxville, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Fred Durst, Sarah Chalke, Verne Troyer, and many others.
Tony Hawk’s Stand Up For Skateparks benefit is a family-friendly action-sports carnival that included games, food, and live and silent auctions with unique items and experiences. All proceeds from the event will support the Tony Hawk Foundation’s mission to empower youth through the creation of free, quality, public skateparks in low-income communities throughout the U.S., and Internationally with programs that enrich the lives of youth through skateboarding. Since launching in 2004, the annual Stand Up For Skateparks benefit has raised over $9.3-million dollars to benefit the Tony Hawk Foundation.
As further entertainment Tony Hawk, Elliot Sloan, Lizzie Armanto, Allysha Bergado, Evan Doherty, Paul-Luc Ronchetti, Andy Macdonald, Simon Tabron, Coco Zurita, Kevin Staab, and Mat Hoffman dazzled the crowd on Tony’s 13-foot vert ramp.For the official word from the Tony Hawk Foundation, please follow the jump.
Shaun White has launched a couple new flavors for the half popped popcorn brand Halfpop (corn nuts). Kind of makes us hungry, but not for Brooklyn Dill Pickle, if you know what we mean. No offense, Shaun.
Today is the official launch day of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 and from the word on the street things aren’t going well. The above video is a collection of glitches that occurred during game play today, and according to a post on Forbes.com there is a huge update coming.
Yesterday it was revealed that a day one update for the game will be 7.7GB. Hefty, but not unheard of, I suppose. But the difference here is that the original file size of the game is only 4.6GB. It’s unclear why exactly more than half of the game’s data is being saved for a patch, but reportedly it was playable, even without it. Still, it’s more than a little bizarre.
As they said on Destructoid, maybe we should wait until all this gets sorted out. One thing is for sure — there is a reason that no early release copies were sent out and it’s probably because all the fixes weren’t completed yet.
Tony Hawk’s annual Stand Up For Skateparks fundraiser at Ron Birkle’s Beverly Hills, California mansion is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, 2015. The event will features skateboarding, BMX, and DJ’s and a bunch of Tony’s celebrity friends and their families. In the new episode, Hawk reveals the impact of the seeing the James Bond action-adventure, “The Spy Who Loved Me,” for the first time at the age of 10, around the time he first started skating. “This movie was all about me,” recalls Hawk. “There were gadgets and death-defying stunts and it inspired me to do something daring like that.” On the flip side, comedies also taught him to laugh off his first skating experience. “I couldn’t figure out where to turn and ran into a fence – my first experience on a skateboard was definitely out of “The Naked Gun,” like the scene with Nordberg getting caught in a bear-trap.” [click to continue…]

Kelly Slater and RVCA ANP artist Kevin Ancell got together on a project called #ThePod, which pays homage to the movie Blackfish and friends who have passed.
“After watching the movie Blackfish, I was so moved and perturbed with the wild captures and captive breeding of the Orcas that I felt compelled to paint my boards to mimic their markings,” Slater says. “Kevin and I had been thinking about something we could do together for a couple of years and we happened to be on a trip together just as the idea occurred. So the first board we did was painted in Kevin’s word art to say “Blackfish.” Kevin initially saw it as my project, but asked if he could start adding some of his color into the messaging and the second board was painted in the DFW tag.”
They exhibited at Pow! Wow! Hawaii last Friday, February 13, 2015 in a show that was curated by RVCA Founder, PM Tenore. And we missed it.
