From the official news released today it would appear that Mike “Chief” Nusenow has a new boss of sorts, and someone who shares his SVP, winter sports title at Quiksilver.
Clark Gundlach, the former (wait, it’s a really, really long title) “Senior Vice President leading Sales, National Accounts, Sales Operations, Licensed Store Platforms, and Multi-Channel Distribution in North America and the Southern Hemisphere for Burton, RED and Anon brands” has been named Senior Vice President and General Manager of Winter Sports at Quiksilver, Americas.
“Clark, Chief, and the rest of the snow team in the Americas, along with athletes like Travis Rice and Torah Bright, are going to take our brands and our business to new places,” stated Rob Colby, President of Quiksilver Americas. “I couldn’t be happier with this crew.”
Gundlach will report directly to Colby and Nusenow will report to Gundlach. If Quik wants to make inroads into the heart of the winter sports market there’s no better way than by hiring one more person away from the leader in the category. After a stellar opening party Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the LA HUF store product from the collaboration between HUF, DLX, and the Japanese wood sculptor Haroshi is finally dropping.
Haroshi is a self taught artist born in 1978 and currently based out of Tokyo, Japan. Combining years of experience as a jewelry craftsman with his long-time passion for skateboarding, Haroshi has developed a unique ability to salvage and hand-carve stacks of used skateboard decks into extraordinary three-dimensional wooden sculptures. Juxtaposing the rough, worn rails of the used decks with the polished forms of their finished product, Haroshi demonstrates and uncanny capability to create beauty out of destruction.

Holden, the Portland, Oregon based creators of snowboarding outerwear are apparently getting their street on with a new collection of sportswear designed in collaboration with Stussy and hipster bag maker Herschel.
“Holden’s roots are in snowboarding, but the truth is, most of our snowboard-specific pieces are already great crossover items,” says Nikki Brush, Holden design and development manager. “We see folks everyday rocking Holden jackets on the mountain and then taking them to the street. That’s why our sportswear collection is a natural evolution. We’ve remained true to the Holden aesthetic, but we are also dedicated to giving our consumers a level of performance that you just won’t find on most day-to-day sportswear.”
The lines will premiere at the Agenda Show beginning tomorrow January 5, 2012) in Long Beach, California. Guess if you want to grow you need to start making more stuff. One question? Is that Russell Winfield on the catwalk?
