Patagonia Pulls Out Of OR Show

by The Editors on February 7, 2017

Patagonia has decided that since Utah Governor Gary Herbert signed a resolution urging the President to rescind the Bears Ears National Monument, they are no longer attending the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City.

Because of the hostile environment they have created and their blatant disregard for Bears Ears National Monument and other public lands, the backbone of our business, Patagonia will no longer attend the Outdoor Retailer show in Utah and we are confident other outdoor manufacturers and retailers will join us in moving our investment to a state that values our industry and promotes public lands conservation.“ – Rose Marcario, President and CEO, Patagonia, Inc.

That’s one way to get out of trade show. For the full word from Patagonia, please follow the jump.

Ex-Billabong CEO Gets 8 Year Prison Sentence

by The Editors on January 27, 2017

Former Billabong CEO Matthew Perrin was sentenced to eight years in prison for fraud and forgery on January 27, 2017, according to a story on News.com.au.

In sentencing the 44-year-old to eight years behind bars, District Court Judge Julie Dick said he still had “no self realisation or remorse”. . . “You seem to simply refuse to recognise that it was you who forged documents and you who caused them to be presented to the bank,” Judge Dick said. . . She said he blamed his ex-wife Nicole Bricknell, the Commonwealth Bank and his former business partners.

Doesn’t sound like odd behavior for a corporate CEO. This one just got caught, it seems. But it’s not over for him. He’s 44 year old and will be eligible for parole in 2021, unless his lawyers can overturn his conviction on appeal, which is exactly what they are going claiming “the jury’s verdict ‘was unsafe and unsatisfactory’.”

Unfortunately, in Australia it seems that they don’t have special country club prisons for white-collar criminals and Perrin will be placed in Arthur Gorrie Prison with “rapists and murderers” according to a story in the Gold Coast News

Luxottica Gets Even Larger With Essilor

by The Editors on January 16, 2017

As if Oakley’s corporate parent Luxottica couldn’t get any larger, the company today announced that it has merged with French optics giant Essilor in a deal reportedly worth $49 billion, according to a story in the Orange County Business Journal.

The $49 billion deal, expected to close in the second half of the year, will create “EssilorLuxottica,” with total revenue of about $16 billion and more than 140,000 employees. Luxottica’s Executive Chairman Leonardo Del Vecchio will serve as executive chairman and chief executive, while Essilor Chairman and Chief Executive Hubert Sagnières will be appointed executive vice-chairman and deputy chief executive of the new entity.

Thanks to the new deal, Oakley is now siblings with Foster Grant as well as nearly every other eyewear brand and retail outlet on the planet. Guess they’ve got the entire spectrum covered now.

Gonz, Snoop At Randy’s Donuts For Adidas

by The Editors on December 6, 2016

snoop_gonz

Adidas Skateboarding celebrated the launch of their Snoop Dogg and Mark ‘Gonz’ Gonzales’ limited edition LA Stories footwear and apparel collection at Randy’s Donuts on Monday, December 5, 2016, with a “lowrider show paying homage to Snoop and Gonz’s deep Los Angeles connection and history.”

adidas Skateboarding hosted an old school West Coast day party that included a special DJ performance by Snoop Dogg, the ‘LA Stories’ collection on display, and a lowrider show that also featured Snoop’s custom lowrider that was painted by Gonz, whose art is featured throughout the ‘LA Stories’ capsule collection. adidas Pro team riders Daewon Song, Na-Kel Smith, Tyshawn Jones, and Jack Fardell alongside influential tastemakers, industry executives, prominent media, and ecstatic fans, also enjoyed specially prepared Snoop x Gonz donuts fresh from the oven compliments of Randy’s Donuts.

Doesn’t seem possible to manufacture a better event, right? Atiba Jefferson and Skin Phillips were even there. We just wonder how Snoop really feels about his new Gonz paint job?

Surfstitch Clears Board For Fresh Start

by The Editors on December 6, 2016

surfstich_ceo

The guys in the suits (SurfStitch’s new CEO Mike Sonand and chairman Sam Weiss) are running Australian retailer Surfstitch and they’re cleaning up the board of directors including kicking off executive directors (and company founders) Lex Pedersen and Justin Stone, according to a story in the Sydney Morning Herald.

None of the board members who signed off on last year’s acquisition binge, which has since been written off, survived the blood-letting announced on Tuesday by new chairman Sam Weiss. . . To help make up the numbers, Weiss has had to collar Quiksilver veteran Harry Hodge, who joins the board this week. . . Surfstitch’s new boss Michael Sonand scored the remaining board seat.

Will be interesting to see if these changes make any kind of difference when it comes to the company’s performance.

Van’s Jamie Lynn V-66 Signature Boot

by The Editors on December 6, 2016

fa16_snow_jamielynn_merch_horizontal

Vans is honoring their longtime, legendary team rider Jamie Lynn with a signature colorway of the V-66 snowboard boot.

The Vans V-66 in Jamie Lynn’s signature colorway sees an elevated aesthetic this season, boasting premium material and function while highlighting Jamie’s own vibrant Pacific Northwest-inspired artwork. The V-66’s traditional lace-up boot construction is packed with features carefully engineered to form an all-terrain boot with freestyle inclinations. The Tongue Lock Down System helps pull down the tongue as you tighten the boot at the instep to eliminate heel lift, and the Reach Around cuff strap attached to the inside shell of the boot allows snowboarders the choice of wrapping the strap around the internal liner or the exterior tongue, providing a custom fit.

Vans is also kicking down a SK8-Hi Mountain Edition and Vans Slip-Er with the same color ways to round out Jamie’s off-snow Vans kit. For the official word from Vans, please follow the jump.

Kozm: Troy Eckart’s Yoga Clothes For Men

by The Editors on November 29, 2016

derek_troy

What has Troy Eckart been up to since peacing out from Volcom after the big sale? It appears that he’s been doing what a lot of people with the time to do what they want do — he’s been flexing around on padded mats striking poses. So much time, in fact, that he decided he needed some clothes to wear “in his practice.” That is apparently why he and Derek Sabori founded a new yoga clothing company for men called Kozm, according to a story on Observer.com.

“When I decided to shop around, on a search for products that might be better suited for my practice, I realized I didn’t personally connect with much; from aesthetic to business ethics. I kept looking and came up short. That’s what really sparked the idea to do something on my own,” he [Eckart] told the Observer.

Seems like reason enough, right? Can’t keep Eckart and Sabori out of the garment game for long.
