Volcom Q2 Revenue Down 25 Percent

by The Editors on July 30, 2009

Volcom-Stone-LogojpgVolcom reportedly their Q2 2009 financial results today and things weren’t that great, according to the press release on Fox Business.

For the 2009 second quarter, total consolidated revenues were $54.2 million compared with $72.5 million in the second quarter of 2008. . . Total revenues in the company’s U.S. segment, which includes revenues from the U.S., Canada, Japan and most other international territories outside of Europe, as well as the company’s branded retail stores, were $43.6 million compared with $60.2 million in the prior-year period.

Wooly did what he could with the spin.

“Despite the continued macro economic challenges in the second quarter, our focus and drive to maintain the strength of the Volcom brand is resolute and propelled by our high quality and innovative products,” said Richard Woolcott, Volcom’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Our global presence is stronger than ever, and that, coupled with the sound management of our balance sheet, uniquely provides us with the solid foundation to position our company as a leader in the action sports industry.”

Still, the company has no “significant debt” and around $96.2 million in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments. And the really great news: analysts were expecting a $.02 per share loss and the company came in at a $0.04 cents per share profits, according to Reuters. So they have that going for them.

Quiksilver x The Standard x Vending Machines

by The Editors on July 30, 2009

Standard

Next time you find yourself at The Standard Hotel without proper swimwear (sadly it’s still required at The Standard) you can simply cruise over to a vending machine and pick up a pair of Quik classic trunks or Quik binkini without even speaking to a human thanks to a new collab between the surf giant and the porny hotel chain.

In celebration of the bold attitudes and bright colors of the boardshort’s golden era, Quicksilver has partnered up with The Standard to reissue their original boardshorts from the 70s and 80s but with modern fits, fabrics and technolocy. . . The Standard boardshorts by Quiksilver and Quiksilver women’s bikini will be sold through the first ever boardshort/bikini vending machines located poolside at the Standard Hotels.

Wonder if they come with condoms in every pocket?

Reward: For The Return Of One VeeCo Balloon

by The Editors on July 27, 2009

0709Ballon2Volcom had a very large stone balloon that flew for a short while over the streets of Nikeington Huntington Beach, California during the Hurley US Open of Surfing. But somehow it “mysteriously” floated away (who would do such a thing). Now Volcom wants it back.

The balloon was seen last at the US Open in Huntington Beach on Saturday July 25th. The rope mysteriously broke and the balloon took off into the sky. . . Volcom is giving out $250 + a box of Volcom gear for the person who finds the balloon and gives it back. If you find the balloon, please contact us at 949-646-2175 and we’ll hook you up.

Those in Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Anaheim or Placentia (or Pamona or Fontana for that matter) might want to look around in the yard a little. Then again, it may be all the way to Salt Lake City by now.

[Update July 29, 2009: According to sources, the Volcom balloon is now in the possession of the Huntington Beach Police department. After the rope was allegedly cut the balloon drifted to 17th Street where it landed on a residence. The occupants believed that a plane towing a banner and dropped it on their house so they called the police.

Now, the Huntington Beach Police department along with the FAA are allegedly beginning an investigation into exactly who put numerous small aircraft and passenger jets in danger by cutting the the balloon free from the roof of The Closet.]

We’re With Los Stupidos . . .

by The Editors on July 25, 2009

072509 16

etnies’ Pierre Andre had friends over to his Newport Beach loft last night (July 25, 2009) to celebrate the release of “The Malloys” new “eco-friendly” shoe The Jameson. Two out of the three brothers made it (Dan did not) and so did Jamie O’Brien with his manager, and celebrity Tweeter Charlie Smith.

We arrived late (Wahoo’s had already packed up their tacos) and Newport’s finest shut the music down early. But it was a warm summer night in Newport, so who can complain.
