Do You Surf and Have A Lumpy Chest?

by The Editors on October 7, 2026

Doctors at the University of California Irvine have discovered a new tumor that affects long-time surfers, according to a story in the California Post.

. . . the unusual lumps, called “liposurfomas,” in longtime surfers, who appear to develop them after years of repeatedly grinding their torsos against hard surfboards while paddling out. While the alarming masses can look like tumors, researchers say they appear to be benign — although they can grow larger with continued surfing.

Nice to add lumpy chest to the the eyes hazing over, and ears growing shut that we surfers must endure as we age. Ah, the sexy life of the waterman.
