Snowboard Mag Gets The Band Back Together

by The Editors on July 2, 2021

What do you do if you’re a creative agency with a bunch of snowboard sport clients and there’s nowhere to place the amazing print pieces you’re creating?

Well, if you’re Jeff Baker and Mike Basher of Axis Media you reanimate your old brand with a little help from the former publishers at Storm Mountain Media.

“I’m excited to connect Axis Media and SNOWBOARD and resume the title’s previous success,” says Baker. “Being able to work with an independent brand, and assemble a team of some of the best media talents in our space, is an incredible opportunity…” Baker elaborates. “The media landscape has gone through some tough changes these past years, but with that comes the opportunity to get back to our roots and allow independent media to bring back the excitement that’s been lost through all of the corporate acquisitions and closures.”

We still love print, and snowboarding, and Draplin, and their whole crew so we’re stoked. You should be, too. For all the details, please follow the jump.

Denver, CO—July 1, 2021—SNOWBOARD, the industry’s premium independent media brand for more than 17 years, has reunited with original founding members to relaunch SNOWBOARD and bring its much-needed independent voice deeper into the snowboarding landscape.

The team spearheading the revamp will be led by industry-veteran Jeff Baker, and renown photographer/editor Mike Basher, both members of the magazine’s original founding team. Baker and Basher departed SNOWBOARD in 2010 to found Axis Media LLC, a full-service media agency servicing the outdoor industry. From 2011-17, Baker also served as the general manager for Transworld Snowboarding and Snowboarder magazines.

Under the partnership between Axis Media and Storm Mountain Media, the Axis team will manage editorial and sales for SNOWBOARD, and Storm Mountain will head-up all infrastructure, back-end and business operations, ensuring the continued success of the brand in the years ahead.

Axis Media has assembled a team of media experts to work on the SNOWBOARD project, including Mary T. Walsh (Editor-in-Chief) and Mark Clavin (Editor). Walsh and Clavin previously worked at Snowboarder and cumulatively bring over 15 years of experience to the brand. And design legend Aaron Draplin (aka Draplin Design Company), SNOWBOARD’s original art director and a founding member will reignite the look and feel with his signature style and brand identity.

SNOWBOARD took the industry by storm when it launched in 2004 and found immediate success paying specific attention to the best products in snowboarding, the best places to ride, and the personalities that make our industry special. That same approach enabled the brand to remain healthy through the decades-long challenges that forced many other titles to close their doors.

Exclusive content will launch on all SNOWBOARD social platforms and website immediately, along with very special print editions coming in the fall. “We will be taking a unique approach to endemic snowboarding media with new offerings that will once again reinvent snowboarding media,” Baker concludes.
