It’s all hip-hop, graffiti art, and fashion this weekend at NorCal’s Boreal Resort as The Third Rail Jam hits March 7, 2009.
Cash prizes, MC battles, DJ performances, graffiti royalty Pose II on mountain demo and a performance by Pigeon John and Self Expression Music’s own Grins & Lam will mark an event that’s high octane from start to finish. And for all the camera friendly folks out there don’t miss the opportunity to make it into the music video for the Grins & Lam hit song, “Fight to the Top,” featuring Pigeon John, taking place all day at the event and afterparty at FiftyFifty Brewing Co. in Truckee, Calif.

3rd Rail Jam Brings Hardcore Snowboarding, Skiing, Hip-Hop, Art and Fashion to Boreal Resort

Donner Summit, Calif.- (February 12, 2008)- Boreal Resort will host the third and final stop of the renowned 3rd Rail Jam on Saturday March 7, 2009, showcasing some of the best in snow sports, hip hop music, graffiti art and fashion. Complete with open men’s, women’s and under 15 year-old ski and snowboard rail jam, the event will be one for the record books, uniting Tahoe’s best skiers and riders with the old days of hip-hop culture. All skiers and riders looking to get their hands on the prize purse will need an entry fee of just $20.

Underarmor, Skullcandy, Kangol, POW Gloves and Launch Snowboards will be on hand to show everyone the very finest from their new lines and giveaway product to lucky attendees. Additional gear giveaways from Guerilla Fist Clothiers, Turbine Clothiers, Gravis, Anon, Smith Optics, and Bern Helmets will also take place throughout the day. Finally, the Underarmor Bunker will play host to a variety of hip-hop events including rap battles, DJ mixing and breakdancing straight out of a South Bronx block party via 1983.
Named after its notorious three rail combination set up for rail jam participants, the guys from 3rd Rail, New Jersey natives Timmy Grins and Pat Hession, have been working closely with terrain park mastermind Eric Rosenwald to create the most grimy contest set-up Donner Summit has ever seen.
“Coming to Tahoe has been a goal of ours since the beginning. There’s no better place to throw down out here and the support for hip-hop, art and fashion runs deep from Reno to the Bay Area,” commented event co-founder Timmy Grins.
After the money is counted and winners crowned, party people will make their way to Boreal’s lodge for the live performance from Pigeon John and his squad, then, as if that’s not enough, the party will move to Truckee’s very own brewery hotspot, FiftyFifty Brewing Co. FiftyFifty is known for hosting some of the Tahoe area’s hottest snow sports events and this one will be no different, boasting graffiti on-model painting, fashion show, DJ’s, breakdancing and a music video shoot live from Truckee.
The 3rd Rail Series kicked off in Mountain Creek, New Jersey Jan. 10, 2009, this year logging more than 4,000 people. From there the event moved south to get dirty in North Carolina, welcoming record attendance, Feb. 7.
