(Los Angeles, CA)— This month, Transworld SKATEboarding (TWS) in partnership with adidas Skateboarding will come together to commemorate one of the most influential skateboarders of all time through a full-length feature documentary entitled DAEWON. The film delves into Song’s decorated career, personal life and showcases his invaluable contribution to skateboarding over the last three decades. As a global skate icon, Daewon has been recognized personally by millions of peers and followers around the world, and formally by TWS in 2018 with the “Legend Award” along with an official 2017 induction into “The Skateboarding Hall of Fame”. His original style and creative technical trick abilities have made him a household name to generations and he continues to impact current and future skaters worldwide by continuing to move skateboarding forward with his relentless drive to push the limits of what is possible.

“Daewon left our universe a long time ago and floats around in his own,” says adidas Skateboarding’s Global Sports Marketing Director Jascha Muller of Daewon’s otherworldly abilities. “adidas and Transworld came together on the creation of this film not only to honor Daewon but for skateboarding’s collective memory and for all generations to come.”

Directed by Joseph Pease, DAEWON will be debuted at a public premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 12th, followed by a worldwide digital release on Friday, May 17th. The documentary illustrates Song’s fierce dedication to the sport over his lifetime, and how his abilities have constantly raised the bar and inspired others. Throughout the edit, fellow skaters Rodney Mullen, Marc Johnson, Tony Hawk, Mark Gonzales, Nora Vasconcellos, Torey Pudwill and many others weigh in to share accounts of their connection, and admiration for Daewon’s influence and continued impact on the skateboarding world.

“It was an absolute honor for Daewon to let us tell his story,” said Director Joseph Pease. “Skateboarding would not be the same without him.”

In honor of the documentary, adidas Skateboarding recently debuted #DaewonDidIt—an Instagram-driven contest that invited skaters around the world to upload and submit clips of themselves replicating tricks inspired by Song’s legacy as an all-terrain skateboarding innovator. Activating his global fanbase, the call to action has united thousands of skaters around the world, marking one of adidas Skateboarding’s most successful digital initiatives to date.

To celebrate the reveal of DAEWON, adidas Skateboarding, TransWorld Skateboarding and Song will host “Daewon’s Picnic”—a pro invitational contest event paying tribute to Daewon’s legacy of LA schoolyard picnic table skating. Held on the afternoon of Sunday, May 12th a hand selected roster of Pro skaters will compete in a multi-event picnic table challenge at one of LA’s most famous skateboarding school yards—Lockwood Elementary School. The contest will center around trick styles that Song pioneered throughout the ‘90s and ‘00s with $20,000 in prizes up for grabs.

As a dedicated partner and footwear sponsor of Daewon Song, adidas Skateboarding is excited to visually recognize his profound influence as a true innovator in skate, and inspiration to millions.

DAEWON will be available to the public on May 17th via the adidas skateboarding website.
