RIP: Preston Maigetter

by The Editors on September 1, 2017

The skate world lost a great human when Preston Maigetter, a staff filmer for Thrasher Magazinewas killed in a single car collision on Vashon Island, Washington the evening of August 30, 2017.

The driver of the car, pro skater Cory Kennedy, 26, was arrested on Thursday morning, August 31, 2017 on suspicion of vehicular homicide, according to a story in the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber. Kennedy was released on Friday pending a charging decision.

An early Thursday morning press release from the King County Sheriff’s office stated that just before 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, a homeowner in the area near where Bank Road turns into Thorsen Road, heard a “loud crash” in front of his residence. When sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene, they found a single-vehicle accident where a car had collided with a guardrail and tree — authorities believe Kennedy may have failed to negotiate the sharp curve.

Maigetter leaves behind a wife and two kids. He was 45. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of everyone involved.
