Lib Tech + Lost = Revolutionary Surfboards

by The Editors on June 4, 2015

We’ve been surfing Lib Tech Waterboards for six months now and while we love the shapes and truly believe the founder Mike Olson is changing the face of the surf industry with his complete reset on surfboard construction technology, we also kept thinking how amazing it would be so other high-profile shapers got behind the technology.

Well, today Lib Tech announced a partnership with Lost Enterprises. Now some of Matt Biolos‘ masterpiece shapes are available in Lib Tech ECO ISO construction. And that is just plain rad.

Here’s what Biolos had to say about it:

“Since I first saw Lib Tech’s ECO ISO construction, I wanted to build a board with it. The strength to weight ratio, eco minded materials and techniques, and the fact that this tech was being built in the USA was incredibly interesting to me. I am stoked that the time has finally come and hope people enjoy riding them as much as we have enjoyed building them.”

Mike Olson is also obviously stoked:

“I have been working with alternative environmentally safer, high performance surf construction all my life…our ECO ISO construction process is much healthier for the craftsmen while at the same time using more environmentally friendly materials and having incredible durability. We are so stoked that Matt took notice of what we are doing up in the northern corner of the USA near Canada, we couldn’t imagine a better partner.”

Matt Biolos’ high performance surfboard shapes and his world class, dysfunctionally progressive surfing program have always been inspiring. Lost has always felt like our sister company. The Lost “Puddle Jumper” model will be the first in a series of shapes built in our environMENTALLY nicer, and technologically tougher Lib Tech ECO ISO construction. Puddle Jumpers will be available at select retailers around the country in June. Look for a …Lost X …Lib snow project coming this fall.

The Puddle Jumper:
Con-caved, planing surface speeder
Domestic bliss with a twist.

This board, features a concave bottom that transitions to a vee in the tail. The wide outline makes for easy wave catching and down the line glide and stability. The concave bottom adds lift and increased rail curve, which allows radical top to bottom surfing. The straight rail line & vee in the tail keep the board moving forwards and hold in during hard carving maneuvers.

ECO ISO construction:
TECHNOLOGICALLY TOUGHER • ENVIRONMENTALLY NICER

Thirty years in the making Lib Tech’s new phase 3 ECO-ISO construction pushes performance, durability, environmental materials and process too new levels. At the heart of the board is Nitrogencell foam that is loaded with nitrogen and has engineered elongated cell structure for maximum compression strength and energy return. Nitrogenecell will not absorb water and is 25%-40% recycled material and we recycle 100% of the offcuts into new foam. Hexzylon Fiberfoam surface skin greatly enhances ding resistance break strength while adding a silky smooth ride. Basalt fiber chosen for it’s high strength properties and vibration absorption is placed directly beneath the Hexszylon adding strength and performance. All this is fused using a unique resin matrix that bridges the gap between polyester and epoxy…the best qualities of a new polyester with the lifespan of an epoxy. Lib Techs all come with our Freedom of Choice FOC 5/8” for and aft adjustable fin system; the lightest and toughest fin box system on the market. Fits many two tab systems and some solid base fin brands.

Every Lib Tech is handbuilt in the USA near Canada at Mervin Manufacturing. For more info go to www.lib-tech.com/
