You just never know the truth these days. According to a video posted on Thrasher Magazine’s website, Editor Jake Phelps says he “was fired yesterday” by High Speed Productions. Here’s what he had to say on the video clip:
Well I guess the who’s hated list that caused a lot of shit. But I got fired yesterday, I guess I’m going to have to keep skating more. . . . I don’t hate anybody. And I love everybody. Let’s all just keep skating. . . . If you have some more questions to ask me maybe I’ll tell you, we’ll go in a van on the road somewhere and I’ll tell you some funny stories and that will keep you occupied. . . . I’ll keep my own opinions to myself. I’m not a jock. I’ve done a lot of drugs. I’m just a regular guy and like I said, “The Truth Hurts.”
Though we know a lot of people who would celebrate Jake Phelp’s firing, we’re not going to start putting our party kit on just yet. . .

FUCK now that phelps is gone skateboarding going to be ran by a bunch of pansy Shecklers. Skateboarding has the gayest image right now because of fags with there nike SB’s and all over print DC/monster colab hoodies. The firing post on Thrasher is a poorly planned hoax that has ‘The Phelper’ in hot water at High Speed. He did it himself after feeling the heat from the ‘Hate’ posts. Your anti-corporate cool guy is just as controlled by his job as everyone else.
Find someone else to save skating…Phelps is not the answer, he’s the problem.

Phelps is Thrasher. Love him or hate him. It is needed at a moment when skateboarding is so “exceptable” we for him to stir it up. Its a tough pill to swallow, there has to be true representation of the real grime; the other side of skateboarding, its not appealing to the masses and is offensive. What would be left of skating if it was a “sport” and not the true degenerate passtime that it once was? The social acceptance is cool in the public skatepark department, you kids have parks!! When I was 18 we ran from the cops just for skating a friggin curb, but it ruled. So no whining, there are tons of parks since skateboarding is seen as a sport. But for us old dudes, let us keep what is sacred, you cant diss Phelps for being real. He represents the essense of what this “sport” should be, and allow it to be everything to anyone, and nothing to no one.
Phelps IS what’s wrong with skateboarding. Him and his posse are just glorified jocks with a tude. Fing funny that people think a corporate hack like this is keeping it real. The guy supports the Iraq War and is practically a republican.
