TEAHUPO’O, Tahiti (Monday, August 25, 2014): The surf has increased into the treacherous realm of 12-to-15 feet (3.7 – 4.6 metres) at Teahupo’o, the world’s most dangerous wave, as the world’s best surfers prepare for the final day of competition at the Billabong Pro Tahiti.

With a significant swell filling in yesterday afternoon, the Billabong Pro Tahiti saw historic performances, perfect scores, horrific wipeouts and a serious shakeup in the hunt for the 2014 ASP World Title as the event whittled the original 36-man field down to the final 12. This morning’s beautiful-yet-perilous conditions have prompted event organizers to commence the final day of competition at 7:15am.

“Solid and beautiful waves on offer this morning and we’ll commence competition at 7:15am,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We have sets reaching the 12-to-15-foot plus range and it is just on the verge of what people are able to paddle into. Our intention is to complete the event today, conditions permitting. Should be an amazing final day of competition and good luck to all our remaining competitors.”
