SurfAid, the organization that is dedicated to improving the health, well-being and self-reliance of people living in isolated surf zones is holding their second annual SurfAid Cup at Malibu, California on Saturday, September 7, 2013 and there’s still time for you to round up a team and complete. The catch? All you have to do is help raise at least $5,000 and you’re in surfing the Bu with a pack of friends (and your favorite pro surfer, maybe even Joel Tudor pictured above).
Teams aim to raise at least $5,000 for SurfAid and, in order of their fundraising total, each team picks a pro/legend surfer to join them, for a total of five surfers per team. The teams then compete in one-hour heats, with four teams battling out the final. An Expression Session will also be held at Malibu on Friday 6th September as a warm-up for the competitors. . . Humanitarian organization SurfAid is calling for teams to enter the second annual SurfAid Cup at Malibu, California, on Saturday September 7th, 2013 – its major fundraising activity in the US.
Surfers who compete get the chance to surf the classic Malibu pointbreak, with a pro surfer/legend on their team, and only a few people in the water.
The tag-team SurfAid Cup is part of the MSA Classic Invitational, which is presented by the Malibu Surfing Association from September 6th – 8th.

ASP world tour surfers Travis Logie and Courtney Conlogue and former world longboard champions Joel Tudor and Jen Smith have confirmed they will compete this year.
Travis Logie, who is ranked number 21 on the ASP World Championship Tour, said he was really excited for the SurfAid Cup at Malibu. “I’ve surfed the wave a bunch of times and it’s so rippable. It’ll be a real privilege surfing Malibu with only a couple guys out,” Logie said. “If it’s anything like the SurfAid Cup in Margaret River, Western Australia, it’ll be a huge success. I was so pumped to compete and win the Cup at Margarets and the team vibe made me feel like a grom again.”
Teams registered to compete include Santa Cruz Surf CitySliders, Firewire, North County Surf, SurfAiders and Posyandu Crew.

SurfAid USA Executive Director, Randal Schober, said: “We are excited for the upcoming SurfAid Cup Malibu. Last year’s event, where we raised more than $60,000, exceeded our expectations and we are looking forward to watching our local supporters and surf legends battle it out at Malibu.”
The Malibu Mavericks team, with four-time ASP World Champion Lisa Andersen in their lineup, won last year’s inaugural event.
