The Good Wood Exhibit, a fundraising art auction which will close in Detroit, Michigan on May 26, 2012, features 100 skateboards created by a who’s who of artists from the skateboarding world and the contemporary art scenes in Detroit and beyond. 100% of the Good Wood proceeds go directly to fund building of a do-it-yourself style skateboard park in Detroit named RideIt Sculpture Park. Emerica’s Wild in the Streets will be held June 21, in Detroit, also benefiting RideIt Sculpture Park.

Power House Productions is an artist-run neighborhood-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to develop and implement creative neighborhood stabilization strategies to revitalize and inspire the community. RideIt Sculpture Park will be a space where neighborhood teenagers and adults can meet, play, create, build and exercise.

Good Wood will open on May 19 in an online auction that will run for one week before the closing reception and final bidding. Featuring custom works on boards from artists Swoon, Matthew Barney, Richard Coleman, Ed Templeton, Neil Blender, Twist, Thomas Campbell, Lance Mountain, Cyril Lance Mountain, Jerry Hsu, Don Pendleton, Todd Batrud, and many more, the exhibit and auction benefits Power House Productions’ RideIt Sculpture Park.

The decks will adorn the walls of 10-22-9 Gallery in Hamtramck, each one unique from the next. This will raise the question for the viewer: “Is this a one-of-a-kind cruiser deck, or does this belong on my wall?” The starting bid prices will mimic a retail skate deck price in an effort to guarantee every deck is sold.

The Good Wood Exhibit is the first in a series of events benefiting RideIt Sculpture Park. Emerica’s Wild in the Streets, on June 21, will raise awareness and funds for successive phases of construction. Events will culminate in an Emerica/Thrasher Magazine fundraising party on the evening of June 21.
