Vans Pool Party Live Online Today

The 8th Annual Pro-tec Pool Party will be live online from the Vans Skatepark in Orange, California beginning today (May 12, 2012) at 3 PM PDT.

This year’s contest will be another legendary face-off with a Pro division filled with past winners led by defending champ Pedro Barros, Rune Glifberg (’05, ’07, ’08), Bucky Lasek (’09, ’10) and Omar Hassan (’06), and a Master’s field featuring 6-time winner and Combi master Chris Miller, Steve Caballero (’10), and the iconic Tony Hawk returning to the pool for his second year.

The final Pro and Masters qualifiers for the 8th Annual Pro-tec Pool Party hydrated by vitamin water went down last night at the Vans Skatepark in Orange with final competitors determined to join the pre-seeded skaters in the main event airing live tomorrow, May 12, at 3PM in HD via vans.com/poolparty.

In the Masters, original Bones Brigade member and inventor of the 540 McTwist, Mike McGill qualified in first with expert lines and control. He is joined by Australian powerhouse Mick Mulhall, lip trick and switch foot master Justin Lynch, and first-year Masters division monster Darin “CookieHead” Jenkins. The legendary Eddie “El Gato” Elguera was narrowly edged out in his first time at the Combi, but with his distinctive style, he will undoubtedly be a presence in the future.

In the Pro division, Austin Poynter, winner of the Amateur Combi Pool Classic contest last January, qualified in the number one spot making a loud statement in his first Pro competition landing huge airs with unrivaled prowess. Twelve-year old media sensation Tom Schaar also easily qualified busting out exceptional power moves not expected from a rider his age.
