Fast driving tire shredder and branding genius Ken Block has launched his new Helm Ken Block Signature Series from Spy.
Custom-color arm variations in the Signature Series—which can be snapped-on and–off and mixed-and-matched—are further punctuated with asymmetrical tip colors on the left temple, inspired by Block’s mismatched wheel color and single-spoke accents on his 650-horsepower, 2.0-liter H.F.H.V.

SPY® Steps-Up to Helm with New Block Signature Series
Rally Driver Collaboration Showcases Convertible Colorways
For Immediate Release: April 19, 2012
CARLSBAD, Calif.—SPY Inc. (OTCBB: XSPY) today announced the release of its Helm Ken Block Signature Series, the next evolution of its recently-launched and much-lauded Helm sunglasses, which are a vintage-inspired eyewear collaboration between the rally car racing icon and the SoCal eyewear brand.
“Working with SPY to develop something that met my needs and wants, taking my product background and putting that knowledge toward the Helm, was a fun challenge,” says Block. “I designed the Helm with SPY to be a modern-looking classic, something that stood-out and looked different from the competition but that would be timeless. I also wanted to incorporate interchangeable arms to parallel the interchangeable characteristics of my H.F.H.V. race car.”
Ford Fiesta’s Gymkhana setup for 2012. Every pair of shades comes with a free bonus set of temples. The frames also feature mirrored lenses in a multitude of colors that help complete the throwback story, echoing a swagger that pervaded American fashion through the ‘70s and ‘80s.
“The Helm we did with Ken is as distinct and timeless as the racer that inspired its design,” says Michael Marckx, SPY President. “Ken’s appreciation of vintage detailing really resonated with our design team and our shared obsession with technical design, forward-thinking style and modern construction combined in a very cool way in the development of this model. The release of Ken’s Signature Series adds a whole new layer of fun and unique personality to the Helm story—harking to the promise of Ken’s 2012 race season in all its colorful, technical and unpredictable wonder.”
Block is a professional race car driver with the Monster World Rally Team, progenitor of the obstacle-based Gymkhana video series (his most recent video, “Gymkhana 4: The Hollywood Megamercial,” has nearly 17 million YouTube views), star of video games DiRT 2 and DiRT 3, and co-founder and chief brand officer of DC Shoes. A crowd favorite at X Games and in the World Rally Championship, Ken opened his 2012 season domestically in February with his sixth consecutive overall victory at the 100 Acre Wood stage rally in Salem, Mo., which is part of the Rally America National Championship, which he quickly followed with a 9th-overall finish at WRC Mexico.
