Ross Garrett Joins Surfline.com

Garrett RossRoss Garrett (right) the former Director of Operations and Development for The Surfer’s Journal has been named Vice President of Surf Products for Surfline.com. Also joining the Surfline.com team in Huntington Beach, California is new Global Forecast Development Manager Mark Willis.

“Ross and Mark are each incredibly talented and well respected within the unique surfing and ocean-based meteorology markets we serve with Surfline and Buoyweather. We are excited to have them both hit the ground running to help continue to drive the growth of our products,” said CEO Jonno Wells.

1/10/2012 — Huntington Beach, CA – Today, Surfline/Wavetrak, Inc. announced that Ross Garrett is joining the company in the newly created position of Vice President of Surf Products. In addition, Mark Willis will rejoin the company as Global Forecast Development Manager.

“Ross and Mark are each incredibly talented and well respected within the unique surfing and ocean-based meteorology markets we serve with Surfline and Buoyweather. We are excited to have them both hit the ground running to help continue to drive the growth of our products,” said CEO Jonno Wells.

With a B.A. of Science in Meteorology from Florida State University and Master’s Degree in Meteorology from the University of Hawaii, Mark Willis will lead global expansion and serve as lead forecast strategist for the company. Sean Collins recruited Mark in December to rejoin the largest and most experienced team of surf forecasters in the world.

In the early 2000s, Mark served as the East Coast forecast manager for Surfline and was responsible for recruiting several of Surfline’s current forecasters. Over the better part of the next decade he worked for NOAA’s National Weather Service, where he moved up the ladder to become one of the most respected marine forecasters and scientists in the U.S. Government. He has received the prestigious Isaac Cline Award in the NWS several times for managing Nearshore Wave Modeling Projects, Hurricane Programs, and his involvement in outstanding Upper Air Observing Efforts, as well as the first-ever Joanna Simpson Mentorship Award presented by the American Meteorological Society.

Hailing from Cardiff, CA with a B.A. from the University of Southern California is Ross Garrett, Surfline’s new V.P. of Surf Products. Ross embodies over a decade of experience in youth culture, media and marketing. Previous engagements include Director of Operations and Development for The Surfer’s Journal, partner at Airborne Media LLC, where as President of Media, he led the reimaging and sale of that company’s flagship magazine, FOAM. He also worked as the publisher of Surfing Magazine, and as a consultant to a small cadre of emerging and influential brands.
