With the advent of man-made snow, resort openings really don’t mean that much anymore. But when a resort with no snowmaking (like Mt. Baker) announces that they are going to open Friday, November 18, 2011 with an expected 25-40 inches of new snow, it’s something good.
Here’s what Gwen Howat told the Bellingham Herald:
“It’s snowing and blowing and it’s a blizzard, so we’ll take it,” said Gwyn Howat, the ski area’s operations manager, of conditions on the mountain late Wednesday afternoon. “(We’re) looking forward to a powder-filled season with La NiƱa on our heels here.”
Need a better reason to head north this weekend? Probably not.
